Wow, this is some HEAVY reading! I guess this is a real important topic since most of our future will be spent after we die.

I would hate to see what kind of trains there are in Hell (or anything else there for that matter). Someone mentioned Alcos from Hell. I would like to add to that list: Amtrak and Penn Central (sorry mating worm fans).

As to Heaven, a place I hope to make it (some of you already eloquently stated how to do that) despite my slimeball self, I would hope to have NO trains or railways. Rather, I would like my own planet (the size of Jupiter) with a vast virgin wilderness (maybe peopled with some virgins).

Then, I alone would like to create my own railway. That way I could do the surveying myself and giving orders to the workers as to bridge construction, tunnel locations, etc. I suppose my workers would be angels (Hells angels being in the other place).

Then I would develop towns and industries and parks and trolleys. I would outlaw long-distance trucks. Autos would be for recreation. Trains and trolleys would be on time and connect every industry and every town and village.

I would invite people from other planets to visit me and to ride my trains and in turn, I would visit their planets to see what they are up to (the Bible indicates there will be tasks for us to do in Heaven and I already knew from a child that mine would be railroading).

Anyway, when you make it the the Sweet Bye and Bye, look me up. Hopefully, I'm on the right track leading up there. As to those of you who think that once you die you are like road kill with no future, all that I can say is enjoy your trains while you still can. :-)

This question brings memories of one of my favorite TV shows. Years ago, there was a series on TV called "Amazing Stories." One of the first installments involved a young family who was building a house on an abandoned right-of-way, much to the consternation of the Grandfather. The Grandfather and his young grandson try to convince the parents to move the house a few feet, but they refuse. One night, the family is awakened to the sound of a grade crossing bell, followed by the wail of a steam whistle. Soon a headlight beam is shining into the living room. As soon as the grandfather moves everybody out of harms way, a train crashes through the house and comes to a halt. The conductor steps out and takes the Grandfather's ticket. Inside the cars can be seen friends and relatives who have died. The conductor tells the young boy, who wants to go with his Grandfather, that it isn't his time yet. Climbing aboard, the train takes the Grandfather to heaven. What a way to go!!! I only wi***hat I had a VCR back in those days to tape that show.

As a Christain I know that the way to get into the Kingdom of Heaven is by obeying the laws God gave us. It's important to remember that God is forgiving and that we are born sinners. None of us is completely perfect. I do believe that there will be trains in heaven. I don't think that they would be needed to haul lumber, etc. I would tend to think that they would be there for us to enjoy, whether our preferance is watching them, riding them or operating them. Each of us does have his/her own idea of what makes us the most happy. There actually are a great number of clergy and other people involved in the church who are railfans, so being one certainly must be something that's acceptable to God. While I'm sure that there are trains in heaven, I do agree that being able to be in the presence of God (not that God isn't always with us here on earth) and Jesus is far greater than any railfanning experience. The main point is that heaven will have everything we need and be the ultimate paridise. Perhaps once we're all gone, we'll be able to meet in heaven and talk about trains without the need of the forums.

If you do make it to Heaven, Wouldn't the mere sight and presences of God make even a Big Boy look like an old washing machine?

If heaven is so very great and the destiny of good people, why didn’t God just put us there in the first place? Angels started there first, didn’t they? Angels never have had to deal with train wrecks and death. Why are we the unfortunates?

I believe the point is that Christ's was the ultimate sacrifice, making any further blood sacrifice unnecessary.

Imagine, A God accepting mortal death, just to permit us all (ALL) to live again - forever this time - and also happily if we are willing to live according to the laws of happiness.

And do we know that any of the ancients made it all the way to God's throne until after Christ's sacrifice. No.

As to the Old Testiment blood sacrifices, has anyone else noticed the similarity to Christ. They used unblemished lambs. Wasn't the Messiah called "The lamb of God" - even by Isiah, Malacki, and others. The Isrealites and others looked forward to the Messiah for centuries because of these writings. They foretold of Him! Ancient sacrifice foreshadowed his sacrifice! Was not Christ this Messiah - Christians believe it.

I believe mortal man can hardly even glimpse Heaven. But from what we can see, why would I want to be anywhere else. As for having our families with us, or trains for that matter, all (ALL) things are possible to God. If you want it, you got it!

the new heaven and the new earth has to do with what happens after the 7 year tribulation. the 7 years after jesus second coming. He destroys this earth...and peter said he saw a new heaven and a new earth.......most likely refering to...what will come on the universe after the 7 year tribulation.

As for trains....the rails will be made of gold......as the roads will be to, the houses will not be wood, but of some very fine valuable item.

OK, I think I have this heaven thing halfway figured out, and it BOTH does and does not bode well for SD70MACS and AC44’s.

Isaiah 65:23 directly CONTRADICTS Luke 20:35. The former says people WOULD HAVE OFFSPRING, whereas the latter’s Messianic words were that the resurrected would NOT marry, which culturally meant they would not have children just like angels do not have offspring. So, perhaps Isaiah 65 has a different meaning than traditionally thought.

To epitomize Isaiah 65, the chapter seems to be about a ticked-off God upset about his people conducting themselves in a way they should not have in the city of Jerusalem, in what is now in the present day country of Israel. That God was going to forcefully change the situation through his own maneuverings. History records that Babylon invaded Jerusalem during a national celebration, and thousands and thousands and thousands that had gathered there were either killed or taken captive and exiled in Babylon, which was hundreds of miles away. Decades later, a small remnant of Jewish captives returned and rebuilt Jerusalem. Perhaps THEY collectively were the mysterious new heavens and a new earth (in symbolism) where ATTITUES would be very different that previously. They would be in that SAME Jerusalem [see vs. 18 and 19]. Those individuals would build houses and actually inhabit them there themselves [vs. 21].

So, all this seems to be about a time LONG BEFORE the advent of SD70MAC’s and AC44’s. HOWEVER, the Biblical letter composer Peter re-ignites the possibility of some type of future SD70MAC’s and AC44’s to transport lumber for house building in 2 Peter 3:13 that quoted Isaiah 65:17 as if there was some type of second application intended. Oh, the difficulty of dealing with colorful language! And you thought Charles Dicken’s “Tale of Two Cities” was slow going and difficult!

Locomotives work best when in an environment of gravity. Without gravity, lack of traction would be a rather humorous, insurmountable problem. In heavenly outer space, can you imagine an SD70MAC trying to couple unto an upside-down AC44 weightlessly floating by in the darkness completely devoid of oxygen?

Regarding Isaiah 65, the “unclear” location where people would “build houses” that may need lumber transported to site possibly by railroads, the phrases “new heavens” and “a new earth” may merely be something nontraditional and super word colorful as at Genesis 11:1, where the “earth” is spoken of as having a “language.” The Genesis passage was obviously about people, as planets do not have any verbal speech.
