How do dynamic brakes work? Are the like a trucks "jake" brake?

a dynamic brake in short...turns the electric traction motors in the trucks of a locomotive into generators... and the "friction" created by the motors makeing electricity slows the train down... and from what i understand about a trucks jake brake... kinda the same idea..but insted of mechanical on a locomotive is electrical...

If you search back through this forum on that subject you will find we have discussed pages upon pages of it's abilities, design, and descriptions of operation....
