Scanner problem/question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 3:40 PM
I just received a scanner as a Christams present this past winter and I have used it quite often, but one thing that really frustrates me is the one channel I would like to use it for doesn't come in for some reason. I am hoping someone can help. Ok, I live in Apple Valley, Minnesota and spend a lot of my trainwatching time down along BNSF's St. Croix Subdivsion along the Mississippi River(Beautiful area). I have all the channels entered into my scanner for the area and can pick up every one except for channel 39 #160.6950 which happens to be the BNSF St Croix line. I just get a constant squelch and no matter how I adjust it, the squelch stays the same, but it's not the same type of squelch as all the other channels, it's just a constant quit squelch. I can constantly hear people talking in the background, but it is so unclear, I can't make out what they are saying. What's really annoying is I can hear talking across the river on CP Rails River line and even talk 100 miles away in the Twin Cities really clear, but I can't pick up a defect detector that is 4 miles away on the BNSF St Croix line. I have a Uniden Sport Cat scanner if that helps. I will call up Uniden, but I was just wondering if anyone esle had had this problem and been able to fix it. Thanks alot for the help.

Scanners cant block out a transmission. If you have constant talking thats all you can do is live with it or take that frequency out. With the channel open you miss anything else right because the scan function is not scanning. Radios have something called PL tones, where you dont hear the other talking unless your radio is programmed with the same PL. They can use same channel and not hear each other, scanners will hear it all. Cant change that. Double check and make sure that channel is being used for that RR
