With the cost of real-estate in CA, I would say they could be used to live in.

Adam Corolla was pricing houses on his home renovation show last night, and they wanted 400k for some little shack that looked like a crack house... Absolute insanity.

Class I's do not have cabooses!

They have 'Shoving Platforms' which were formerly refered to as cabooses. Shoving Platforms are not occupied in the normal forward motion of a train....their only purpose is to provide a safe location for a trainman to be on the leading end of a 'long' shoving movement.

Industrial spurs can be several miles long and situated in such a manner that movements must 'shove' either to or from the industry. Shoving Platforms are assigned to specific jobs on a case by case basis.

For Class I's the caboose is an item of history.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
