This is an excerpt from today's newspaper;

On Saturday, Sept.24 and Sunday, Sept 25, the Glenwood Railroad Museum will be offering "farewell" rides from Glenwood Springs to Carbondale over the tracks of the former Aspen branch of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad.
Because seating is very limited on our small rail motorcars, it is necessary to reserve your place on the ride. There is no charge for the ride, but contributions are welcome to defray fuel costs.
Contact the Glenwood Railroad Museum at970-945-7044 or the Managing Director at 970-928-8721.

For all you naysayers to my recent posting, come and see for yourself if the roadbed is bad and bring the joker who says the valley is too built up to be scenic.

Calling Mudchicken a joker is not a wise move unless you are trying to make enemies. You may dissagree with him but he is no joker (though he does have jokes [;)] )

[#ditto][#ditto][#ditto]

I agree with MC, too. While it might be more scenic than, say, I-70 through Kansas (my apologies to any Kansans in the crowd), it really isn't what I'd call scenic based on other Coloradoan things. In fact, this is probably why I won't be on on of the motor cars. The weekend of Sept. 24-25 should be pretty good for "leaf lookin" and I may be either in RMNP, or down at the C&TS.

Mr Thomas
I did not come on these forums to make enemies, in fact I was looking for allies to save a wonderful piece of rail. A rail that carried the block of marble that became the Unknown Soldiers Tomb at Arlington.
Most of the replies were encouraging but one was full of sarcasm and even challenged my spelling of crystal even when he did not know why I use an E instead of an A.
Obviously, you class yourself as his champion but I do not understand why I cannot answer him in kind. Is it because I'm am a newby and he is full of stars?
But maybe you are right ,I should not have called him a joker, just a joke.

The point with Mudchicken is not the number of stars, anyone can get stars just by posting. He is a professional track guy, probably a civil engineer. He knows track. We all know he knows. We do not know what you know.

Mac -

You are most diplomatic. Compared to MC and many of us in the industry that merely by behaving this way "Crystel" has demonstrated significant ignorance about railroads and how one acquires a railroad line (or in railfan parlance "saves" such a line). It certainly goes a good distance towards alienating me...

You are the first person to ever call me diplomatic. I have been working on it a long time. I am also proud to be a professional railroader.

I'm not his champion. Anyone that has spent any time on these forums will see that Mudchicken is an industry insider and very knowlegable on many railroad subjects. Not only that but he lives in your area and probably knows more about where you are talking about than most. You would also know that mudchicken has little tolerance for ignorance.

But if you are all that.....well.... you can have all the rope you want.[;)]..........good luck.[8D]

Ignorance is what is really wrong with the world today...everybody thinks they are an expert, even when they are actually very ignorant of the subject of which they speak. Let's respect the real experts.

I'll readily admit that I'm ignorant about a lot of things... but just knowledgeable enough to be dangerous... [}:)]

Too bad I can't make it to CO next weekend... Sounds like fun, scenic or not...

Yep, me too...refreshing to see folks admit to not knowing everything about everything.

Mr Thomas, I hold a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Granted, I am not an railroad engineer per say, but a lot of my projects had to deal with moving heay objects from one place to another, so. I used track.
I would have loved to have been one of the engineers who laid track through these Rockies, but I was born too late. I live directly across the Colorado River from the original track beds.
I have no idea how bad it was for these people to lay these tracks, all I want to do is preserve them. I am sorry folks if I have annoyed a few of you, but, ***, if I can prevent these tracks from being pulled up, and sold for scrap, I will do it.

Since I could care less, I'll jump in here with both feet in my mouth...

Crystel River, based upon the way you started with that cocky "have I decided I am in the wrong forum?" You looked like a troll, you sounded like a troll, and you were even touching on a subject that was burning brightly at the time (off topic subjects) So, It really looks like you came here looking to rile trouble, so why are you sorry you found what you are looking for?

OTOH, of you really came here looking for an opinion, with no desire to start trouble, ...Mudchicken gave you an opinion, one based upon some degree of familiarity with the line in question...what more could you want? (you don't have to LIKE the opinion he gave you)

But, you had to get sarcastic, making light of his nickname,...why? because the opinion he gave you wasn't what you wanted to hear?

Well, if you are looking for a place where everybody will pump sunshine and tell you only what you want to hear,..then yes,..you just might be in the wrong place here...
