Army Steam Locomotive

U.S. Veterans Administration 2-6-0 No. 1000 was declared surplus by the U.S.V.A. and transferred to the U.S. Army (U.S.A.). The date No. 1000 left Perry Point has not been found, again there are no records, or they weren’t made available. It has been found reported the former Perry Point locomotive was at Camp Davis, N.C. in the 1941-1942 era. The Army had renumbered the locomotive to U.S.A. No. 5631 and it was used by the Quartermaster Corps. It was transferred to the 829th U.S. Air Force Base at Gladsden, Ala. and renumbered to 6932. The little information for these transfers was rather sketchy with no dates given and trying to locate any information through the various government departments and the offices of our elected officials in Washington was hopeless.

Can anyone fill in the details?

While there is a Web site for Army diesels, there doesn't seem to be one for steamers.
