QUOTE: Originally posted by CSSHEGEWISCH If Katenya is located in northwestern Arizona, this may be the Black Mesa & Lake Powell, which is a landlocked (no outside connections) operation for hauling coal between the mine and the power plant at Page AZ. The third unit is one of the original E60C's built for BM&LP around 1970. The units lettered for NdeM were built for NdeM for a proposed electrification which was never built and some were later sold to BM&LP. I don't know about the lead unit.

Either they were taken down or do not exist in the area along route 160 for sure. As for the cattle guards I did not see them either. The loop track will soon be pushed under US-160 to the east to catch up with the surface coal mine which is expanding eastward which is making the existing conveyor belt obsolete. Coal from here "feeds the dragons" at the other end of the line where the power plant is. Watched two Amtrak E-60's shipped to Page,AZ from Bernallilo NM in the late '80s. There is still at least one Alco C-425 (ex-MK)on the property for when the catenary fails. Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. It's a long trip but there are no overhead heigth restrictions along that route (and darned few power lines). dd Reply spbed Member sinceDecember 2001 From: Austin TX 4,941 posts Posted by spbed on Thursday, September 8, 2005 9:27 AM Yes the empty hoppers were being pulled under the chute by the locos for loading I guess. I did not see any new construction or heavy machinery that would be used to build a underpass for the tracks when I went by. I also did not see the diesel or diesels only the electric's. Thanks for the info on how the electric's arrived way out there in Arizona.
