MLW RS-23
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 5, 2005 9:01 PM
I live near a short line who runs ex-CP RS-23's(Windsor and Hantsport Railway Company, Nova Scotia Canada). I have never seen these locomotives for any other road, so I am thinking maybe they were made special for CP?Your help is appreciated,

Thanks, Morgan

The RS-23 is a roadswitcher version of the S-13, which was the 251 engine version of the final Montreal design of switcher. Canadian Pacific had ten of the S-11 version fitted with the non turbocharged 539 engine of 660 HP. 40 RS-23s were built between August 1959 and July 1966, fitted with a 1000 HP inline 6-251 engine. They used the MLW version of the AAR Type B road truck instead of the Type A truck used on the S-13 switcher. All of them were built for CP, but an A1A-A1A version was offered to CN but the 244 engine RSC-24 was built instead, only four units being produced.
