If you what to help - stay home!
Posted by dldance on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 8:50 PM
One thng that we can all do to help the situation with Katrina is to stay home. Gas prices have skyrocketed because of demand, decreased supply, and lack of transportation. So stay home. Every automobile trip that we can postpone for a week or two will reduce demand and allow available resources to be used to help the efforts in the Gulf.

Maybe this means that we postpone a railfan trip or two -- hardly a sacrifice considering the problems.

Something to think about.

I wish I could comply with that request, but the main reason my wife and I are traveling to Omaha this weekend is to attend a wedding. So I'm taking the opportunity to railfan there as long as I have to go there anyway!

I agree this gas thing is terrible. I'm now car pooling and riding my bikes to the tracks now because of everthing.
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

Gas prices have skyrocketed, because everybody wants to take advantage of the situation... It illegal to gouge on things like batteries and water after a major disaster, but somehow it's apparently OK to go from $2.89 a gallon to $5 or $6 a gallon, only two days after a disaster. If supply is the issue, then why not sell what you have at a normal price, then close the station when your out? Instead, they double price and act like there's nothing they can do about it. The oil companies have made record profits, gotten millions in tax breaks on top of that, and still gouge the public for every last cent they can.

Have a good time in Omaha. We ordered nice weather for you - about high 80's all weekend. Not too shabby for end of summer in Nebraska!

If we all try to purchase our regular amount of gasolne for our vehicles we wouldn't add to the panic buying and hence help the shortage situation.
I for one, sincerly hope the Co's. that are gouging us are being remembed by their customers for future choices where to purchase fuel.
Everyone make sure you have perhaps around 30 psi in tires {autos and light trucks}, and maybe a 5 or 6 dollar new air filter for your auto engine and reduce those jack-rabbit starts at stop signs will help just a bit with fuel milage....

One additonal thing to ModelCar's suggestions... shut off the engine then turn the key to ON before you roll up the power windows. You may save a 1/4 tsp of gas, but that adds up over time.
