This has puzzled me for 50 years. Who ran the engine,steam ?
At Newcomerstown, OH on the main line PRR Pittsburgh PA to Columbus,OH in 1950 a westbound regularly scheduled passenger train with a T-1 on the head end was stopped at the station which was not in use. As this was unusual I went to investigate. The conductor and engineman were at the wayside telephone.
There was a work train headed west on the Y , adjacent, with a G-5 4-6-0 equipped with steam and signal lines for passenger service., which was uncoupled and pulled out on the eastbound main.
the T-1 was uncoupled and moved to a team track at the station. The G-5 crosses to the west bound main and coupled to the passenger consist and headed out for Columbus, OH.
Which engineman took over to complete the run ?

It should have been the engineer on the train that had the disabled T-1. You're called for a job and the engine is irrelevant. There's also a potential problem concerning whether or not the G-5 engr was qualified for psgr
