You might want to see this--"UP Locomotive Moves to Air on TV"
Posted by CShaveRR on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 9:32 AM
My employee paper noted an upcoming TV program of possible interest:

"The recent moves of Big Boy No. 4023 and Centennial No. 6900 to the new Kenefick Park in Omaha are coming to TV. A documentary crew filmed both moves for the 'Mega Moves' TV series, and the Big Boy/Centennial episode is scheduled to air on the TLC cable network July 7 at 9 p.m. CDT. The episode also includes the move of a railroad depot in New Mexico."

That's tomorrow night--my wife will be manning the VCR for me.

I saw that too on one of the yahoo groups I belong too. I definately plan on watching it, it sounds neat. Apparently there also supposed to move a railroad depot or something like that.

TLC still has shows other than people redecorating another person's home? I remember when one could be fairly certain something interesting would be on that channel at just about any time.

Had to laugh at your comment, Eric--My daughter watches this channel a lot, so I've seen it when we've visited there. Pat turned the TV to that channel to see whether we got it, and there was the same old picture of somebody's worldly possessions being divided into "keep" and "sell" piles.

Anyway, the show's tonight, 9:00 Central Time, 10 Eastern and Pacific (from what I've been told).

How very right you are, Eric! I used to watch TLC quite frequently, but not very much anymore. Those were the days! Anyway, I'll definetly be tuning in and taping it tonight. It sounds very good. On my digital guide, when I push "Info" for the program, all it says is, "Two father-son teams have big loads to move."

I agree. Those shows have just about ruined a good channel.

If you miss it, it looks like it will be repeated at 1:00 am, that's eastern time. I'm thinking that would be 12:00 midnight central time. But like they say, check your local listings. [:)]

Yes they certainly have. I thought the whole purpose of The Learning Channel is to teach it's viewers about something worth while. Instead we have shows on teaching people how to seperate other people's posessions into the trash and keep plies and maybe a good will pile. Extream Makeover, In a Fix, Trading Places, and some other show that I can't think of desicrate the good name of TLC!! lol

At least they have some sence to show a decient program tonight (Eastern Standard Time)!!! Thanks Carl and I'll be poping a tape in along with Pat tonight. hehe.

That was a good show. It looked scary for a bit when one of the dolly's broke hauling the Big Boy over the tracks. Also impressing was seeing the Big Boy's face peek over the hill. Could you imagine driving the opposite direction and seeing that [:0] coming right at you[?] Hauling the depot was good too.

They could've been more prepared in moving the Centennials' trucks. Did you see the chain snap when the catapiller tried to move it[?] [V]

Take care,

Russell

LOL, I did, and did you notice that they used a DD35 instead of a 40X for the diagrams, i thought that was kinda funny. Glad to see a railroad program on once and a while.

I found it interesting that the guy from the company moving the depot in Deming, NM said the depot was between Union Pacific and Southern Pacific tracks. I guess he meant UP and BNSF.

The show just finished in Pacific Time and was pretty good. I have gotten off of a lot of the TLC and History Channel shows because they are usually so slow paced, but this one moved right along (you should pardon the expression). My wife even sat through it and almost enjoyed it.

Nice how the power utility in NM didn't bother to show up to raise the wires along the interstate. I guess since they were probably blocking I-10 at that point, somebody from law enforcement reminded them to get their cherry pickers out there.

All in all, a pretty entertaining hour.

I watched and taped it last night. Very, very good! I enjoyed it thoroughly! It was really something to see just how much work it takes to move these things. It was a real eye-opener. You certainly can't get stressed out too easily when you have a job like that!

I saw it and kept wanting to tell the narrator who kept calling them trains, "Those are ENGINES, you nimrod!!"

The part I found hairy was watching moving crew member get under the lifts to see if everything was going OK. The idea of a Big Boy dropping or tipping over on me just freaks me out.

Otherwise, it was a pretty good show.
