I recently saw BNSF 6246 SD 38-P and BNSF 6298 TEBC 6 on a freight train at Ft. Scott,Ks. I have two questions.1] what is the prime mover in the 6246? 2]what is the history of this combo? Thanks.

Do you mean BNSF 6264 and 6298 because 6246 doesn't exist.
1. 16-645E prime mover
2. There are 11 TEBC6s and 11 SD38Ps. The SD38P is mated with the TEBC6 for #### and transfer service. I don't know what the history of this combo is.
Last I knew both 6264 and 6298 were assigned to Memphis, Tennessee.

6264 is former Southern SD35 3096, built 1965, rebuilt in 1992. TEBC6 6298 was rebuilt in 1993 from C&S SD9 829, which later became BN 6224 before rebuilding.

BNSF 6264 built 12/65 as SD35 and was rebuilt to SD38P by VMV on 11/04/92.
BNSF 6298 built 01/57 as SD9 and was rebuilt to TEBC6 by VMV on 6/22/93.
