All aboard the Texas State Railroad...

Well. After several years of hearing other people talk about it, some friends and I drove up to Palestine and rode the Texas State Railroad from Palestine to Rusk and back. It was a 50 mile round trip ride that cost us $22.00 each for our airconditioned seats. The only complaints we had was that there was litter and debris along the sides of the track, the trees and brush were so close to the track that you couldn't see anything most of the time except trees and brush and the food at the food car was awful... Otherwise we had a real good time.
Our train was a 1917 2-8-0 Baldwin pulling about five heavy weight cars.
If anyone out there is thinking about going, you might want to call and make reservations ahead of time-and be sure to take your own lunch!...
