CN 489/490
Posted by MP173 on Monday, May 30, 2005 7:52 PM
A little help please.

This last week I have heard of CN trains 489 and 490 on the scanner here in NW Indiana.

Any idea of what these trains are? Origin/destination, etc.

thanks,

Go buy a Canadian Trackside Guide. The Bytwon Railway Society publishes it annually. It will list all US and Canadian trains operated by CN and CPR.

489 should be Port Huron Mich. to Virginia Min. and 490 should be the reverse.

Hey thanks for the help.

I had not heard these trains and suddenly they showed up. Perhaps they were infrequent trains, or run late at night.

I will try to see the next one that runs to get an idea of the traffic (boxcar, lumber, tanks, etc).

I don't know now but 489 used to be a Niagara Falls, Canada to Capreol slag empties train and 490 was a Capreol to Chicago slag loaded train according to a 2002 sheet I have.

The current Trackside guide has 4 489s and 4 490s including those.
