Look at this.

It is good to see first off an unpatched BN unit, and on all engines, a GP9!

Woops. The SD9 and GP9 do look alike though, sorry. The BN did have GP9's didn't they?

Yup, that's an SD9. BN had 281 GP9's at one time, #'s 1700-1980.

First, how can you tell it's an SD9 as from my vantage point with my small monitor I can't tell the number of the unit, not can I see the radiator configuration? Secondly, we see GP9's here at Eola yard fairly frequently but usually not high nose units but rather chopped noses and once in a rare while we willsee one in a mainline freight...really good to see.

3 axle trucks, thicker sidesills, and the lack of a radiator screen directly behind the cab.

It has to be tough for engineers to run a regular (non local) freight with a high nose in the lead. Nostalgically cool, operational a bummer.
Yes, No....any takers.

I wish I could see a SD9 or even a GP9 here in Philadelphia. I did see a GP9 a couple of times at 30th street station, it was Amtrak owned. That BN SD9 was cool. :)

Even though it is a small pic, I can see the three axle truck up front. Cool find man!

[:D] Well, here goes. From Butterfield and Rt. 53, if it was me driving I would continue west on Butterfield Road all the way west all the way to Farnsworth Ave. (be careful as at this intersection Farnswortth will be to your left and it becomes Kirk Road to your right). Take a left onto Fransworth and travel south until you cross the bridge over the BNSF mainline (the only railroad you will cross). Immidietly after crossing the BNSF on the overpass bridge, make your very first left turn and take this east for a very short while until you come to McClure, turn left on McClure and you will very quickly be at the grade crossing of the BNSF at the Eola yard. At this crossing you will see the BNSF yard office to accross the tracks and accross from the junk yard (oops, sorry, Auto Recycler). The place we all typically park to railfan is on your right and just before you cross the tracks on McClure. On a typical Saturday afternoon after about 1:30 or so you can find as many as six to eight cars parked there (there were about that many today).

By the way, today the "East Yard Job" had two old chopped nose and rebuilt Geeps, one GP7 and one GP9.

Hope to see you out at Eola some day.

[wow] Wow, you must really have good eyesight to notice those details from such a small and fuzzy photo from a web-cam!

Strange, but it seems since we began chatting about the GP9 and similar older power, I am seeing lots of it on and around the BNSF Chicago to Aurora mainline over the past few days. Today, I say no fewer than three GP9 units on three mainline junk trains passign through Naperville. One train (BRCGAL) passed through Naperville with an SD9 (chopped nose in BNSF H1 paint), a BNSF GP38-2 also in HI paint and a rebuilt chopped nose Santa Fe blue and yellow GP9 with a whole heck of a lot of cars, it was really pulling hard up and out of the Naperville curve past the Naperville station today.

BNSF 1408 was in the center of a consist running W/B up to the Mississippi bridge at Memphis this afternoon. Does a GP10 rebuilt (1974) from a GN GP7 (1950) qualify as something for this thread? ;-P

If you are anywhere near southeastern Michigan you can see GP-9s run everyday. The Adrian & Blissfield uses a pair of ex-GTW geeps.
Highball....Train looks good device in place!!
