I've heard that Krebs is the paradigm of efficiency. However, sometimes one does have to wonder about too much of a good thing. In this instance, I would kind of tend to believe Mr. Krebs a bit too efficient. I still think that the railroad world needs to look at the UP's steam program. All one needs do is watch the crowds that appear whenever #3985 (and #844 again soon!) show up. One look at a big steamer like that is intoxicating. Seeing it run at speed cannot be matched. I'm sure the UP pays quite a bit for the insurance on the program. But, I also think that any inconvenience or insurance woes are more than worth it in the PR department. Just an opinion. Now if we could get one of the RR's to use steam for their busniess trains...THAT would be the penultimate. At least it would be to me if I was president of a railroad. Of course, if Mr. Krebs didn't like the range of an updated F9, I'm sure a steam locomotive couldn't even come close. In reply to another post, these horses ain't pulling nuttin through Belvedere of anyplace else; they've been parked by MARC's Riverside Shop since retirement about eight years back. We put them in the shop about a year ago and a shopman said they were looking into making HEP cars out of them. They may actually have been put in the shop so IRRM people could go through them. Y'all start looking for them, as they should be landing in the heartland any day...I want to see some pictures too.
