Amtrak train in Michigan

While driving home from work yesterday, I saw the Chicago to Detroit Amtrak train on the CN line near Pontiac, Michigan. It was the usual set up with a Genesis loco on one end and an unpowered job on the other, but the last car following the unpowered loco was an old NYC Pullman passenger car. It seemed to cause quite a stir when in rolled into Pontiac. My 5-year-old son who loves trains saw the same train a few hours earlier in Dearborn, Michigan. Any idea what was up with it??
