INRR is most likely looking toward the future and I'm betting they are looking to see if the ACs will save them any money in the long run. My guess is that they will save money because the power of ACs will probably handle their road movements which should give them a little more flexibility in their local schedules. I'd sure like to see one of the AC's crossing Tulip Trestle or parked in their Switz City loco shops. Of course if anyone hears that there is a INRR SD-40 near the Chicago area please let me know. I'll call in to work and follow it until I get a good pic! Mike techguy "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. I guess with the 38ACs they have it covered. mike techguy "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. I would rather use a Railking than an Alco. I like the GE's better than SD40's too. Reply edbenton Member sinceSeptember 2002 From: Back home on the Chi to KC racetrack 2,011 posts Posted by edbenton on Friday, April 22, 2005 6:58 AM I don't know about the ALCO's wobble but considering that I have seen Railkings shake like a leaf. I would take the ALCO anytime. Plus the trackwork makes a difference in the ride of a train. Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY. Q360 and q361 have all but assigned not always the same but 2 cw44ac or 70 macs or something. And the Q670 and 671 gets all kinda stuff out of st louis or western power goin back there. all the other trains the dirt and the grain trains power sd40 is the smallest power on the road due to the tonnage and hills. now all the gloom and doom and know it alls will say well csx is cutting back . but the power on that line is better than it has been for a while , the trains are heavy but the powrs good. NOw the inrd uses those sd40's on their coal trains i guess and i bet its hilly around bloomington and such so the ac's would be a good idea i live fairly close i'll believe it when i see it on the tracks but it been years since i've seen a train over there Reply Edit jabrown1971 Member sinceMay 2003 From: US 195 posts Posted by jabrown1971 on Sunday, April 24, 2005 12:32 PM When I worked for the INRD, we talked about how the SD40-2's would tear up the rail, of course back then they had SD18's and GP16's. CSX power frequently visted the south (west) end of the RR. CSX T540 ran to Hoosier Energy two or three times a week and occasional grain extras would come on line with CSX locos and all. I saw the AC's just the other day. I am sure that Mr Hoback knows exactly what he is doing, of course please remember, CSX does have a part ownership in the INRD...............kinda makes Indy a one and a half railroad town Reply techguy57 Member sinceAugust 2003 From: NW Chicago 591 posts Posted by techguy57 on Monday, April 25, 2005 4:37 PM QUOTE: i'll believe it when i see it on the tracks but it been years since i've seen a train over there Big chief- Could you please clarify what line you are talking about? Not about INRD's line, are you? Mike techguy "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. Now i see their transfer jobs in indy all the time mainly at avon they seem to get in around us all time while we wait to get in the yard i'm sure it's because we have 100 cars and they have 30. I did see q360 leaving avon the other day for cincy with 4 inrd sd40's so i looked in the computer and yes they are using 4 of em em the q360/q361 service thats interesting i wonder how they are handling the tonnage i haven't worked over there in a while i bet those dudes would rather have the ac's. Reply Edit techguy57 Member sinceAugust 2003 From: NW Chicago 591 posts Posted by techguy57 on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 3:21 PM Chief- My understanding is since RCA/Thompson left Bloomington the primary run on INRD's mainline is coal to both the Stout power plant and the Perry power plant in Indy, that is unless that has changed recently. That's pretty much how it was when I was living in Bloomfield. INRD used to run at night in order to maximize efficiency on the line(power plants unloaded the coal during the day) so I'm guessing they still do. Given that coal service has been there #1 source of revenue all along I think the AC4400 will probably find a home in Switz City. Mike techguy "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity.
