No once I leave the Omaha airport I was just wondering what the time frame maybe to Kearney via R30? It is only me so driving & train chasing would be difficult at best. Hah you want to see traffic come to the lower SE. If you come bring crash helmet & very sharp reactions as you have seen nothing like it anywhere. Some days I can sit for hours and see nothing on the Omaha Sub. Other days are great. I had one extremely rare day when I saw 14 westbounds between Fremont and Columbus. I was in a hurry to get home since I had been out of town at a conference so I only shot two of them. What I'm really saying is that I saw 14 westbound trains in slightly over an hour. Plus I overtook three eastbounds. Odds are that you're going to see lots and lots of trains. There always exceptions. I can remember sitting for about five hours at Cozad w/o seeing anything moving so even the triple track has its moments. And again, this is Nebraska so there is very litte traffic on the roads. What we consider bad traffic would be laughable to lots of drivers in other parts of the country. Once you're out of Omaha you'll be fine. My question is what would you guess would be the drive time using 30 instead of I-80 to reach Kearney? My ultimate goal is Gibbon so between the 2 divisons that merge at Gibbon I hope I will see a fair share of trains ( not like your experience @ Cozad). Yes coming from the lower SE with its extremely dense traffic I completely understand what you are saying about Nebraska traffic. Learned that from a few friends I have who still drive trucks over the road. Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY. If you're coming out to watch trains you may as well drive the road that parallels the tracks. 80 will get you out there faster, but think of all the trains you'll miss. Most of the way out on 30 you're right next to the tracks while you rarely see them from the interstate and when you do see them from the interstate you're too far away to take pix. 30 is your best bet.
