Video clips of high speed rail
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 5, 2002 2:34 PM
I found a site with small video clips of the TGV trains in Europe. The first link is a quicktime shot of a train passing by. The second link is a media player of 5 shots from the cab.

We are talking fast here, around 186 mph.....

Does anyone have a video camera of the Acela train going fast in eastern Connecticut? If you do, many of us would like to see a 20 to 30 second pass of the Acela going fast. It would not be a bad idea to post such a video on a homepage somewhere. Please post a link here.

The Acela Expresses do not run that particularly fast in Eastern Connecticut because the curving nature of the right-of-way between New Haven and the RI state line results in plenty of speed restrictions. Some examples that I that I know of are Stonnington, CT, Mystic, CT, New London, CT, and Niantic CT.

I photographed a southbound Acela Express passing the station in Mystiic, CT which is where the tracks change direction from northwest-southeast to northeast-southwest. I didn't notice the Acela Express' tilting mechanism being deployed, and the train didn't seem to be traveling much more than 60 mph.

West of New Haven, however, thetrack is owned by Conn DOT, and it is operated by Metro North. The last I heard the maximum track speed between New haven, CT and New Rochelle, NY is 90 mph; I understand Metro North and Conn DO are working on improvements to allow the maximum track speed to be increased to 110 mph.

Does anyone have any clips of the "Classic Trains" going at high speed. Talking about Pre-Amtrak, when even in the 1960s, some passenger trains were still hitting 90 m.p.h.

On Oaks Model Railroad, there are a good few videos of Acelas on the North East Corridor as well as the regular passengers pulled by an AEM7 or two. They go quite fast at times. There is a trains right now on there and it is pulled by 2 AEM7s and about 17 cars long.

Found a clip of the Jet Train that Bombardier is trying to sell to the florida high speed project going 150!! and it looks alot like the acela to give you an idea of how it looks going 150.
http://www.bombardier.com/index.jsp?id=0_0&lang=en&file=/en/0_0/0_0.jsp
due to the way they set up the web site the above link doesn't send you directly to the video. here are the directions
1.Click on Bombardier Traxx

2.On the screen there is a menu with the title PRODUCTS, under that go to Rail Vehicles, then Intercity/High Speed Trains, then click on High Speed Trains

3.On the screen under Reference Projects go to JetTrain USA and Canada

4.Then Click on hJet Train

5.On the menu on the side go to Multimedia, the Videos

Lastly click on the first video for the actual jet train, the second is just a muted view of the turbine that is in the Engine.
Sorry the directions are so long.
