Mark H,

Good article, bad photos - come on now, there are so many good railfan photographers that deserve some light. If Trains wants a place amoung fans, it needs to call on them for photos for such articles...

The title page photo sucks, the photo on page 83 sucks, and the other four photos suck.

There is absolutly no better adhesive for railfans, then the call for photos!

Bad photos?!? I can't speak to all of the photos, but the one with the lumber train winding up the 3% grade was one of the coolest photos I have ever seen. Not only is it picturesque, but it drives home some of the problems for the SP. It is not just eye candy; it is a picture that tells a story.

Gabe, that photo you're discriping in Trains, its just not there.

The photos that are there are crap. Mark H, should have invested some time, in selecting the right photos to repersent the SP.

Jim:

Those scenes from the 70's....they are GONE.

What pictures are left should be enjoyed for the historical perspective.

I recently found a box of photos and slides from the 70's and was delighted to find them. Looking at them I realized I wasnt much of a photographer, but at least I got shots.

Regarding the shot on page 83....the one in my magazine is stunning.

Ed,

You are so correct, views from the 70s are special. And I certainly enjoy every view from that time period!

But there is a difference from us fans enjoying not only the image, but the roumance of the image from the time period exchanged over the internet via mail-list and such. Gosh, It's about sharing memories.

This is not about communities and sharing pictures, its about our national railfan magazine telling a story and supporting it with the BEST photos. Again, great prose, photos, VERY LACKING......

Somehow, If Mark had made a call for photos from the time-period, we'd seen the best of the best! That was my point. He never called for the good.

That picture of the train climbing the 3% grade is probably the best one in the magazine.I just recieved my copy yesterday, and it is great.[:)].
