We're looking at traveling on the Mountaineer from Denver to Moab this Spring. Has anyone taken this train? If so, would you describe your experience?
There are two levels of service offered - Silver and SilverPlus. The Plus lets you spend time in the lounge car which has a small viewer's deck and there are special drinks available. We don't care about the drinks, and the Plus would add $1,100 to the trip cost. The photos show the lounge as having no added window view from the inside. Is it really worth it?

If you change your mind, let me know. I don't have personal experience, but know a couple who rode in the past year. I think they'd be happy to provide feedback, though it would be from a non-railfan perspective.
A non-railroad friend of mine took the Canadian version several years ago. He and his wife were impressed.
