Amtrak ‘Kelso, WA” mudslide closure

Just curious -- What woyuld be nvolved for this to happen?

Logistics and contract wise -could- AMTRAK shuttle the Seattle based Coast Starlight consist to Portland, via either Spokane or the Tri-Cities and run the #11 to LAUPT while the "Kelso" mudslide has the Seattle - Portland route blocked?

Washington State destined passengers and possibly the passenger crew would need to be Thrruway bussed further North.

Tthe Passenger crew would need an extra 3+ hours (and miles) each way in order to tie-up at their real home terminal. Also presumes Portland is still a train crew change point on the Coast Starlight.But -could- the Passenger Crew be temporarily “homed” in Portland. i.e. with existing contracts and rules?

Never mind. I see AMTRAK is reportingz;

Coast Starlight

  • Train 11 which is scheduled to depart Seattle (SEA) on 1/25 will now originate out of Portland (PDX). Alternate transportation will be between Seattle (SEA) and Portland (PDX)
  • Train 14 which departed Los Angeles (LAX) on 1/24 will now terminate in Portland (PDX). Alternate transportation will be provided between Portland (PDX) and Seattle (SEA)
