Lake Michigan & Indiana is the switching road for Bethlehem's Burns Harbor plant. My son and I spotted some of their power from US 12 a few years ago and both of us were grateful for long lenses.

Have an empty car at our warehouse for Ns.They have a few more to pick up uptown as well.Saw an empty rail train go west while on lunch.Another westbound took a track panel west as well after work.Came home and took care of the jungle.Mother nature did send rain last night.Matt is in town getting things for school. Spent a fair part of the afternoon organizing my diecast fire trucks - I've gotten more since I first put the tubs together. Wheee!
I once worked in a Smithsonian eligible hardware store here in DC. They featured John Wright foundry cast iron pans, dutch ovens, kettles and mechanical banks and toys. One day Senator Tower of Texas dropped by. He bought a horse trough and proceeded to have it filled with banks and toys. included was a 30" long horse drawn hook and ladder. Had us ship the works to his Texas address.
We also sold theft resistant dome bottomed fire buckets.

I've been organizing/reorganizing and cataloging my diecast fire trucks for the past couple of days. I'm on the last tub, but it's a busy one, full of Matchbox sized models.
So far, I'm up over 150 entries in the database.
The worst part is that I'm discovering some duplicates (not entirely a bad thing), but I'm also finding that I might want to do some further reorganizing, putting like models (such as the Hallmark Christmas ornaments) in the same tub, as opposed to scattered about. Might think about doing that with the different fire truck builders (American LaFrance, Seagrave, etc).
I use foamboard for the dividers. You might want to buy stock in that and glue for my glue gun...
Matt is back on campus.Ns had a stack train each way when we were going to campus. Had to wait on an eastbound Carl special after lunch.Mamma is going grocery shopping.Tomorrow we'll see if we can get some good pictures of the 765 coming east.
Well the 765 is going to be turned today in Ft.Wayne.They are waiting for an Ns crew and will use a wye track at the CF&E yard.The turntable at the Ns New Haven yard was used today as well.Ns had welders around"NE" working on the track when I left.Csx might still be having problems in Chicago.Dispatcher was asking q 352 if they could take their train the other way today.Going to stay inside and keep cool.
The Ns local was uptown when I left work. A friend and I went over to Deshler to do some more quick clean up. We took a workbench from upstairs down to the garage area at the museum.Now there is plenty of room to layout the tools and such.Csx started running more trains as we left to come back home.We also stopped and saw the ND&W's progress on the rails east of Defiance.Can't wait until they take the machines west.Time to get cleaned up.

The flashing circuit is a simple module available on-line. The lights are vehicle marker lights (LED), the post, etc, are aluminum shapes from the home improvement store, and the crossbucks are now plexiglass, as the plastic I used before managed to get broken...
Train show coming up in a couple of weeks, so had to get 'er done.
I actually have a bit of a conflict with the train show. It's on the 11th and 12th, which is, of course, the 20th anniversary of 9/11. As an officer in the county firefighters association, I should probably be present at the ceremony a local Legion post is doing, but, there's the show. I'll speak with my other officers.
I'll probably take my diecast ladder trucks and set up a little display with the figurine I have of the firefighters putting up the flag (well known image).
Sounds like a more sophisticated version of the crossbuck that Dad made for my brotther and me when we were tykes (mid-1950's). He used an old broom handle for the post and 5-ply plywood cut to size for the sign. He also made an operating crossing gate for us.

I haven't gone that far, but I know a couple of people who have. One had a full-scale mock-up of a loco cab in his basement, too. He has a full-scale AAR stand wired up to run train simulators like MSTS...

As big as the B17s are, they are tiny when compared to some of today's aircraft.
I had to opportunity to self-guide my way through one a few years ago. My 6'5" frame probably shouldn't have gone down into the nose, but I did. It was a very tight fit. You do gain an appreciation for the ball turret gunners.
OTOH, at the same show I had an opportunity to talk with the crew of a C5A that was also on display. They told me they had carried a B17 in their cargo hold...

Several years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Combat Air Museum at Forbes Field in Topeka. Most of the displays were WW I and WW II fighter air craft. Tiny especially the WW I aircraft that were displayed.

Using my parent's house this weekend, as my house currently has no bathroom in it. So far, the remodel has gone smoothly, other than the surprises found during demolition. Last remodel just drywalled over the original bathroom, tile, outlets, and all; surprised the house didn't burn down from all the interesting electrical work. Also, who puts black wallpaper in a bathroom?!?

Got things done in Deshler yesterday.Csx was still playing where to run the train.New and old friends as well.Matt had a battle and the trampoline won.Will be checked again if surgery will be needed on Wed.Right now the doctors think he will just get a cast.Chores here at home.

I didn't put up black wallpaper, but I did use the upstairs half bath for loading the developing canisters (Tri-X Pan) when I was taking a photography course. There was one light leak that I covered with a piece of cardboard. In fact, I think that cardboard is still there...
Ran errands in town.Looked at Csx and the ND&W.The ND&W had the tonka toys parked in the yard.Plus plenty of cars for csx to pick up at FC.J 715 on Csx had plenty to move around today as well.They were also told by the dispatcher to get to the yard.They had q 172 and q 010 behind them.Matt is doing better.Going to check if I am making lunch or supper today on the grill.
Spent the long weekend in Des Moines- this morning I took the grandsons for a train ride behind Iowa Interstate's QJ (Chinese 2-10-2 steamer), they were running excursions from the Science Center downtown out to an I-35 underpass west of the city and back, about 50 minutes worth. Coming back the train was led by one of IAIS's Geeps, #702. The ride was actually the boys' second, their father took them yesterday morning. They didn't mind at all getting to ride again...
