Tehachapi Thermite Tuesday Show
Posted by ChuckCobleigh on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 12:17 PM

I hope they clip this out to save, but the Tehachapi Depot Museum railcam today has an excellent "up close and personal" sequence starting about 9:00 am with a UP crew making two thermite welds at the Green Street crossing project. Amazing stuff, especially the post-weld work getting the rail profile back in shape. A lot of innovation in making the whole process efficient.

Thanks, Chuck.  I had watched a couple of thermite welds on streetcar tracks about 25 years ago, and it's always fascinating -- and blinding.
