My Dad grew up in Kemper IL and his Mother was the Post Master there for many years. In fact as a young boy my Dad was tasked with exchanging the mail bags coming in and going out. He has told so many wonderful stories about his youth and what he remembers about the RR. But....he is not an enthusiast and at 83 his mind is not as sharp as it once was. Growing up in Medora I barely remember the tracks running through town and dont recall seeing trains running through. Pics would be fantastic.
Just curious who owned those tracks and if anyone by chance had any pics of the Kemper station. I have never seen a pic and it would absolutely make my day to see some pics. If they exist I guess I have not been looking in the right places. Thanks in advance and all Fathers out there have a wonderful Fathers Day tomorrow.
Kemper and Medora were on the Burlington's route from St. Louis up to Galesburg and on to Savanna. I expect that the Burlington owned the track. In February of 1953 there were still a train each way. #47 left St. Louis at 9:04 in the morning, passed through Medora at 10:48, and arrived in Savanna at 12:15 the next morning. #48 left Savannah at 5:22 in the morning, passed through Medora at 4:10 in the afternoon, and arrived in St. Louis at 5:45 in the afternoon. Medora was a scheduled stop both ways. Kemper was a flag stop, at 10: 43 in the morning and 4:06 in the afternoon.
