I agree though they have lots of missiles,  tanks and nukes.  But a Europe dominated by Russia is a powerful economy.  Meanwhile we are driving away almost all our allies.

And even now,  the Russian military is far more powerful than China's.

Not really.  China is building their second domestically built aircraft carrier while Russia can't build anything bigger than a frigate or corvette.  Their only source of large gas turbines was the Ukraine, and that source is now gone.  Most of the Russian navy is Soviet-era ships.  The PLA army and airforce are being rapidly modernized. Russia makes nice prototypes of advanced fighters and tanks, but can't get them into series production.  Reconstituting the USSR is the worst thing that Russia could do.  It would bring Muslim minorities back inside their borders.  Look how much trouble Chechnya has been. Russia only has a population of 150 million, and it's aging.  When you are constantly bragging about your new super-weapons, it means you're trying to scare people but without substance.  The Russian economy can't support much growth and rearmament.  There's a reason the US has pivoted towards China.  Europe/Russia is no longer the center of the world's economy.

Russia is hostile, but is at most, a regional power.  It has neither the population, economy or military might that China does.  Even weakened Western Europe could take care of Russia.  They bluster and do provacative things, but they really don't have the hard power to back it up.

Putin's goal is to reconstitute the Soviet Union.  And even now,  the Russian military is far more powerful than China's.

And Romney was prophetic. But now,  in the face of overwhelming evidence,  his party is in denial.

You know we have a real enemy,  Russia,  which some people choose to ignore.

"Gov. Romney, I'm glad that you recognize that al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what's the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida. You said Russia ... the 1980s, they're now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because, you know, the Cold War's been over for 20 years," Obama said.

It is mainly about our lack of scheduling (most train crews still work on call, without regular assigned days off) and the Company's demand for cuts to the rest and time off we can take.

That sounds like Safety First. (not!)

I suggest you take the time to read the first chapter (free) of Gingrich's book regarding the challenge China presents to the US.  See if it makes you think about looking at the lenses with which you see the world.

China literally wants to rule the freaking world both economically and thru its use of force. They have a 2100 plan that no one talks about.  By 2100 they want the entire world under their control and they mean the entire world.  By 2050 they want everything east to Europe under their thumb including Russia.  By 2075 they want all of Europe and by 2100 they want control of the American Continents.  They want everything and country under their rule.

Wow! Better check the country of origin labels on your tinfoil hats. Mischief

I was thinking maybe you were implying that part of the plan was to punish those who enabled the Chinese to move goods into our market- like railroads.

Me thinks you give me too much credit sometimes.

Laugh  I'll throttle back.

Charlie, did your time in Europe influence your choice of moniker, the satirical news outlet that was attacked by Islamic extremists?

Maybe.  Or maybe just basic humanity and compassion.

Or there is my Husband's Family Charlie the only living part of it is that part that came over to the USA as those that stayed over in Europe were exterminated by Hitler and Himler's SS goons in Triblinka for being as he called them SUB HUMAN and unworthy of living in the Greater Germany.  My great grandfather and his wife were the ONLY survivors of the village that he came from in 1918 when he immigrated to the USA after WW1 after fighting in the French Foreign Legion against the Germans and Austrian Hungarian Empires in that conflict.

Are you saying they were Jewish?

Once again you are just spouting GOP war-mongering talking points.  Question : In the last 60 years how many wars, invasions and other military actions has the US entered?  How many has China?

Very nice.  I was fortunate to have had the advantage of being fluent in German,  had the training in history,  including several classes at Uni Munich. I lived there for several years,  including much closer in time to the time period in question.  I talked with many veterans,  including relatives there and others introduced to me by German friends and relatives.  You were in the US Army, like a tourist by contrast.  Big difference.  I'm not going to argue with your views, as there is no point because you don't read carefully what others post.

As I clearly stated,  you confounded some facts with your ideologically biased views.  It is obvious you never had formal training in history so you resort to personal attacks.

My post was about Hitlers rise to power and you attempted to refute it with events that happened AFTER Hitler had achieved power, then you stated I am confounding facts.     No confusion on my part.

The KPD and SPD were first targeted because they were the largest of the two political parties outside of the NDSP (Nazi Party) and represented a more imminent threat.   What happened after?   They went after the smaller parties.    All they were doing there was prioritizing to consolidate power fast, they were not singling out the Left Wing for special treatment.

You can write all the history papers you want, I actually lived in the country.  Spoke with former German WWII veterans, been to a concentration camp museum, been to East Berlin, been physically on German WWII battlefields, seen the fortifications, seen the U-Boat pens, stood in the Riechstag, etc, etc.   Never spoke German fluently, didn't need to.   Everything in the major historical places have English narratives from a German perspective.   Most Germans speak pretty fluent English.

Can you explain that a little more in depth?  I'm not sure I'm understanding you correctly

Railroads make money moving shipping containers full of imports from port to market.

I can see how any policy that restricts (either directly or indirectly) the overall volume of imports, would affect the revenue stream of such a railroad, and so I'd not be at all surprised that the honchos of said railroad would be critical of any policy that (directly or indirectly) curtailed their greed.

Last word was just a zinger to make sure you are paying attention...Devil

Now, the fact that these items being expedited by the railroad are made on other shores, potentially costing loyal Americans valuable jobs on these shores, is entirely subjective....I'm not even willing to debate that part of it, believe whatever you want (zing!!)

Convicted One

Perhaps that indicates that the plan is working?

I think we all understand that anything that hurts a company's business and profits would be frowned upon by the company in question. I was thinking maybe you were implying that part of the plan was to punish those who enabled the Chinese to move goods into our market- like railroads.

rather like saying one play was the entire football game.

Watching some of Tom Brady's post game interviews, you definitely get the impression he believes that. Laugh

Thank you C-O.  I appreciate it.

FWIW, I thought the suggestion of branding you "anti-semitic" for your employ of a metaphor was totally over the top.  You were clearly assessing the perps, not the victims.

But, for some, carrying that torch has become an enterprise, and they perhaps felt you were threatening the franchise?

So; with that in mind - a quick question for SD70Dude; any developments in the strike against CN?

Since you asked nicely.....

No real updates from negotiations.  They are still talking, but I haven't heard of any real progress since the strike began.

CN is trying to make it seem like this is all about money.  It isn't.  It is mainly about our lack of scheduling (most train crews still work on call, without regular assigned days off) and the Company's demand for cuts to the rest and time off we can take.

Quebec is starting to run out of propane.  They are screaming at Trudeau to legislate us back.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks for the update!  And for the record; I hope y'all prevail here.

Thanks for the Dachau story Charlie, I'd heard it was an SA operation from the beginning.  Very interesting.  I didn't think Himmler had that much "pull" that early.

You're very welcome.  Himmler had a lot of power,  gained in a meteoric rise into the highest levels of power in the 3rd Reich.  In that position,  he entered into the constant internal power struggles.

Rhetorical question; does anyone at Kalmbach ever review these threads for content truly relevant to the posted topic?

If they do, if nothing else they should be proud of the caliber of their readers and posters!

The Talmud, I know of  it, but only one quote from  it, and I hope I've got it right...

"If I am not for myself, then who will be for me?  But if I am for myself alone, than what good am I?"

I heard those words years ago and never forgot them.

Heaven forbid that a thread wander off topic.  Must be those real railroaders who aren't happy with how it's going...

Oh; I've noticed since joining how discussions tend to wander on this forum.  :-)

It's one of the  more interesting threads of recent time. And everyone with maybe one exception has been very polite.
