Utah had the fans on high, Kansas & Nebrasky had the vacuum clears on as high as they go. 61 degrees and 50+ MPH winds. The mountains are dealing with blizzard conditions, while the the plains have seen not a flake. Hanging light fixtures on the 11th floor offices were swinging several inches. Nobody light a match!

Is that why it's so windy here in Kentucky? I just figured all the politicans were yelling at each other.........

Taking big rolls of 'Shop Towels on a Roll' to Wisconsin, so they can be made into Shop Towels on a Roll and Shop Towels in a box. Was near 70 in North Carolina today, supposed to be 15 in Wisconsin tomorrow.........

I don't know about Wisconsin but it was around 20 degrees this morning when I left for the train station.  We may get about an inch of snow on Saturday.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Right at freezing this morning, with several inches of snow from overnight, but the promise of 4-7" today and tonight.  Could be interesting...

But it is winter in northern New York.  In 1977 we were recovering from the Blizzard, and in 1998, upwards of 10,000 power poles came down in the  Ice Storm.

Anyone missing several thousand Canada geese? The goose poopers around here have a penchant for going after pedestrians, wandering into traffic from the medians and turning sidewalks into minefields....

The Chatterbox is appropriately named for winter, that's for sure.  I was able to make a saunter to the drug store and back this afternoon, giving me a walk of about a mile and a half.  Heard four trains, saw none of them.  [:-(]

Paul's right about the chance of snow Saturday; it could be as much as three inches, but will more likely be about half that.

I have an errand to run in Elmhurst tomorrow, returning (with gratitude) the child seat we borrowed over the Christmas week.  The weather word for tomorrow is "blustery", so I'm not sure I'll linger long to watch trains or anything.

MC, I've been seeing and hearing formations of your bombers for the past week or so (I love the sound at high altitudes...close at hand, not so much).  I did catch myself putting my hood up...

Nope, still have lots of the geese on the river up here in Calgary.  Supposed to get another chinook blowing in, starting tomorrow and much stronger on the following days.  Are you expecting one too?

Haven't seen many geese since fall - but there have been those who stick around instead of going south.

Got home from a meeting tonight, pushed the button for the garage door, and it only went half way up.  Closed it again, and it opened, but I could see something hanging where nothing should have been hanging.

Turns out one of the tension cables had given up the ghost.  As I looked for what I had to fix it I discovered (!) a replacement cable, with clamps.  So it's fixed.

And just how did you get so lucky to have spare parts available?  Most of us would have something much more useful like an extra TV antenna.Whistling

One thing I have learned from my efforts in racing.  If something breaks - buy two.  If it broke once IT WILL break again.  From the Boy Scouts motto - Be Prepared.

The bad thing about buying two - when the next one breaks you will likely have forgotten where you placed the second one when you fixed the original break with the first one.

AmenYes....and the stored part magically appears AFTER you buy another pair and do the repair. Now you have two spares.

Laugh It's like Deja vu taunting me! The light went out in our fridge. I went to buy a new appliance bulb that we stock at work. They are $1.99 for one or $2.99 for two. A coworker tried to convince me to buy two. "You know you're going to need another one down the road anyway and you'll save a buck". I explained that when I needed another one I probably wouldn't be able to find the extra, so I purchased the package of one. I went home last night, took the bulb out of the package and took off the light cover. Can anybody guess how many bulbs are in the light fixture in my fridge? Dunce

I have no idea - unless I bought enough to do both sides but only had to fix one at some point in the past.  What's amazing is that I even had cable clamps tied to the cable - saved a rushed trip to wherever to find the cable, etc.

Ended up being a fifteen minute fix...

Of course, the best way to make sure it doesn't break is to have a spare conveniently on hand.  I found slide projector bulbs lasted a lot longer if I had one ready to go!

Light snow after almost sixty degrees yesterday. Large collective sigh of relief in Denver today. Maybe 3-5" of moist snow by tonight.

No snow today - in fact, we have mostly clear skies.  The temperature, however, is a full sixty degrees cooler...

'Boston Cooler', and it has nothing to do with Boston.

Vernors taste has something to do with ginger being aged for several years in oak barrels. Fred Sanders is usually named as the originator of the ice cream / Vernors drink/float. Now adays, it works best if you can use soft serve ice cream.

Suspect Matt may get an early quit --- our promised 3"-5" turned into 8"-10" of really wet stuff with flurries still persisting ... just enough to get scotties bouncing through the un-shovelled parts.

Are we ever gratefull for the extra water. (Denver only had 8.5 inches of water last year and this helps the lawns and evergreens from getting too brown.)

MC, did you persuade the clouds to bypass us? There were a few spots of ice at 5:45 this morning, and we have been told that it will be Wednesday before we get any appreciable precipitation. So far this winter, our snowpack is good--but we also need more to make up for the recent shortfalls.

MC, you asked us about a week ago to quit hoarding the water, and we were glad to oblige.   We had no rain since then except for about 0.2" today, but the ground was so saturated that it's still like walking on Jello out there.

Looking at the Deshler rail cam - they've been getting snow all day.  There's a little flag in the park near the diamond - I can't see it now, which could mean 8-10" vs the 3-4" that was apparently forecast.
