Amtrak doing maintence on trains 14 and 11 at Oakland...

I was listening to the radio on railroadradio.net, and they said that they are going to inspect the wheels on both trains 11 and 14 at Oakland every day this week. Is that because of the new facility they have there or what? Also, why couldn't they just check them in LA or Seattle? I am taking the Train on Friday up to Eugene, so this should be interesting. I heard some more, and I guess there is damage being done to the wheels somewhere in route. Does anyone know about this? I guess my train is going to be late, typical Amtrak!!
