Zephyr derails, Stillwater, Minnesota
Posted by Boyd on Sunday, December 12, 2004 1:54 AM
The Zephyr dinner train derailed today (saturday). 2-3 cars plus one engine. I was surprised to see it on 3 of the 4 local TV stations. Must be slow news day. It goes very slow so nothing big is gonna happen. It happened a block from my house. Anyone know why it derailed?

First-let me say-must have been a slow news day. However there were passengers involved I am sure, which always brings news media out. As someone with a journalism degree I can say, "sensationalize everything."
Second-Let me say that I am stunned to hear the dinner train is still running
Third-If there were no trucks carrying hazardous waste, overturned and leaking in your area, a train derailment would catch the attention of the media, but I would think falling temps or the threat of snow, would far more keep their attention.

In all seriousness Boyd, wait til Monday, I might hear from some folks I know up there. They might shed some light on it. Was anyone hurt?

Boyd, just checked kstp web site, says cars slipped off rail-ice patch or build up? No one hurt, and train made it's next trip without incident.
