CSX coal train ...
Posted by oltmannd on Thursday, December 15, 2016 12:47 PM

...where there wasn't one a year ago.

Latley, I've been seeing a roughly daily coal train headed north from Atlanta toward South Carolina on the Abbeville Sub.  Most of the time, it's a mix of bathtub gons and rapid discharge cars, all with rotary couplers.  Some have little palmetto's stencilled on them.  Other times it's solid SCWX cars.

Always running DPU, 2x1.

Empties run the opposite direction with the same frequency.

My question is, where did this train come from?  Is it a reroute off the Clinchfield going the long way to SC or something else?

Anybody know?

That might be the pennyroyal coal train going to Georgetown SC,pennyroyal is what the Clinchfield called that train in the day.
