How much is that doggie in the window...the one riding first class coach? Yeah. Excpect a train on any track at any time in any direction. Even a railroad highway vehicle and anything might be hanging around a yard. But Mitch's pic caught me by surprise and caught my vote.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. This week’s voting trend totally baffles me. Doesn’t anyone understand the essence of the word ‘theme’? While Mr. Bishop’s entry, which looks like will hands down be the winner of Trackside No. 283, admittedly is rather stunning but theme-wise is rather common and hardly out of place.
Take this May 1, 2009 photo taken in a very old, high density residential area of Pasadena, CA. The newer house pictured is on the old right-of-way alignment of the Santa Fe “Second District” which saw many, many warbonnet F’s leading the famous Super Chief trains through here for decades.
Mr. Payton’s entry, on the other hand, which currently has the poorest voting tally, seems super striking and very, very out of place, just what the theme calls for. I personally have never seen such a ‘lift’ thing happening out of doors. Again, do those voting understand the word theme?
Maybe the problem is the universities and higher education has changed the meaning of the word ‘theme’ and I’m behind times. Does black now mean white based on the film negative concept? I’m totally baffled …
