Made an equipment move to Tupper Lake yesterday (two cars, hauled by a 1940-vintage SW1). 110 mile round trip at 10 MPH on our out-of-service track. Long, long day, but the weather was beautiful and so is the scenery. Can't wait to take the public on it (perhaps late next year).

I had a trip sort of like that.  Only I had a ES40DC leader.  Lots of speed restrictions and MOW stop boards.  As soon as you crawled out of one, you were going into another.  Then stuck behind a local for a little bit.

Next trip I had a brand spanking new Tier 4 leader.  Those engines are even taller than previous ones.  Pretty soon they will dwarf the doublestacks.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Sounds like it's a good thing I've been lying low these past few weeks.  Busy driving, you know...

Well, I've been laying low, but not by choice - looks like I've finally gotten past a major sign-in mess-up and I'm back to being myself again.

On the other hand, I haven't slept that soundly in ages (once I got home and into bed...)

Back on the railroad this weekend.  In the meantime, making preps for the French Festival next weekend, where I once again will spend the day pedalling my you-know-what around a nice little village, hoping none of the 10,000 visitors has a medical emergency...

My wife and I had a good dinner and conversation with Carl and Pat last night.  We then went looking for railcars in all those places they usually are parked- until the day you look for them, and most every track was empty.Sigh

Carl- They only use the cabooses during the annual Quarry Days, when they give train rides around the quarry property- last weekend.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

Murphy Siding's suggestion for going to Dell Rapids, SD, was sound.  Lots of freight cars for L. G. Everist, locomotives for the D&I Railroad (DAIR), and some DAIR cabooses, probably not in use.

And Carl's idea to take a shortcut off the original itinerary proved to be very serendipitous!  At Breckenridge, Minnesota (just after leaving North Dakota), we discovered dump cars and other good equipment for both the Red River Valley & Western and the Twin Cities & Western Railroads.  They weem to be a very busy concern around there, with coil steel and some form of grain--we saw one string of at least 50 large covered hoppers (soybean meal?).  Further on, we saw a sad-looking line (possibly the Otter Tail Valley Railroad?) with a trainload of STAX crude-oil tank cars stored on it.

It kept letting me try to log in to no avail. Various members were posting new posts, so either somebody at Kambach didn’t like me or God was saying it’s time to quit this madness cold turkey.

I am thinking the Kalmbach IT mavens were 'improving' the system with all their usual havoc and disruption - Geeks don't know when to leave well enough alone.  Try to fix one problem and create 100 more with no real understanding of what the did to create the problems.

Ended up changing my password that I had for over 10 years, only way the "system" would let me back in...never heard a peep from repeated request to Customer  Service.

Try going back later and see if you can re-register under your old screen name and password

ED: "Something" must be going around? Sigh

I suffered a similar 'happenstance' week before last...Got lockrd out of Forum and could not view 'Newswire'... Of Course, it was way after hours, on Firday night. I tried multiple way and reenter PW and Sign-on. Finally, out of frustration, I messaged 'Customer Service'

The site caution says they will return a 'contact' within 48 hours.Oops

That put it out to Mon or Tues for 'official response'.....IT did arrive within 48 hours!Wow

My "issue' seemed to have been 'fixed'Huh? when I tried it again late monday night. Yeah

Only problem was,Bang Head when I went to sign on, DA SYSTEM required a change in PasWord, that I had used for so long, I'll probably not remember my new one Confused... SHEESH! Crying

I also had issues a couple of weeks ago getting logged in - of course it was over the weekend - went the 'customer service' route - got the 'automatic form response'.  Was able to get back in during the afternoon on Monday without changing user name or password.

Balt, I had the same problem a week and a half ago. I tried what was recommended--get  anew password, etc., get an email note with the new password--and received nothing. Monday, I was able to get in as though nothing had happened (same old access).

Hey, 'NEW GUY', welcome (back) Tree.

"Customer service" is often miss labeled.

Back in the '70s' a young friend had boosted his CB radio output and installed a tower that had twin, dual axis antennas, he called it the beam.  Late at night on cloudy days, actually very late, so the neighbors, and 'others' didn't break down the door, he would chat with others as far away as Texas.  He lived in Grand Blanc, Mi.

We are still on our western tour--close enough to completion to be in the same time zone as home (effective today).

Pat and I were given a marvelous tour of Sioux Falls (complete with dinner in The Diner) by Norris ("Murphy Siding") and Lisa.  They then took us around town to scout for freight cars.  As is often the way, the host feels disappointed at what's available (boy, do I identify with that!), but the guest is more than satisfied.  I will be busy for 'way too long with the sightings I ammassed today and this evening.

The trip has gone beautifully so far, and there's not much more to go.  I will have a bit of time around home to do some research on some of what I've seen.  As for non-railroad stuff, yesterday was filled with Wall Drug, the Badlands National Park, and Mount Rushmore.

Norris made a good suggestion for a stop I should make to find some unusual equipment on the way out of Sioux Falls.  From here we will go north to North Dakota (just so we can say we've been there...state No. 44 for Pat and me; 47 for me alone). Then across to Minnesota before heading almost directly home, via the Twin Cities and central Wisconsin.  I suppose I'd take a side trip to Rochelle if Pat would let me...

Well, I'm back, if with a different account.  Can't seem to get customer service to get me into my old one.

Beautiful weekend - perfect for the Amateur Radio Field Day.  I think we made around 300 contacts over the 24 hours.  I worked the digital side, which included one contact in Brazil...

We contacted every state east of the Mississippi, and quite a few west as well.

Timber Bridge fires are certainly impressive. On the V&S Railway (Old MoP Hoisington Sub/ "Towner Line)....that thread will pop up here shortly (the experts at everything and proficient at none, dime store youknowwhats with thin skins will try to hijack the thread). One of the few large timber structures still on the line left not replaced by a precast concrete box girder on h-pile bents.

More disturbing was the quintuple fatal with Amtrak #3 at El Moro/Hoehne outside Trinidad (CR 32 location makes no sense from the local reports)...I hope #3's video cab cameras were working if the initial reports of a minivan parked on the track are even half true.

Electroliner 1935

It's around Haswell CO. If you click on the posters name, He's a sheriff for the county and he has other pictures of the short trestle fire. The line was a former MP now UP line. Whether still UP is not sure. It runs to Pueblo CO from the East.

Appreciate the info.  That is a very unsettling picture.  And if it is UP, they are not doing well in the fire department....

OK - I got Eads Co - but no other details.  Really had to work to find that KS probably felt the heat.  So still need details, if you have any.
