Johnny, as a retired educator, don't under estimate SOME thieves. I have seen kids that went the wrong way w/their intelligence. One could tell you more about law than a lawyer. In fact his illegal moves were predicated by what the consequences would be if things went wrong. ya know what, he has children coming on w/same modus oparendi (sp?) such is life ..... but then there is the bank thief who wrote his hold up note on his bank deposit slip endmrw0425161133

Norm, ask any RRer who travels over the river into Memphis about the graveyard/Kentucky St. same situation another city no doubt any large city has its area too. Reference this who thread: check out Trains New item of BNSF and their work against this threat. Pretty darn sophisticated operations on both East/West coast. Pretty obvious "insider info", as they know schedules/manifest......no dumb dumbs here .....tough nuts to crack/catch then the carriers don't want to publicize the happenings (truckers are similarly affected) endmrw0424161139

blue streak 1, your report said search in three states. Any down here in the South? Heard news from somewhere down here and then no follow up on explosives found down here. A suicide and stash found afterwards, it was reported part of the thief. Maybe the press was TOO anxious to report as we bloggers are prone to be. you know 2+2=9 endmrw0425161352

That the boxes were apparently found in a field with only one crate opened suggests that they didn't know exactly what they were getting, and didn't know what to do with it once they got it.

Had the fireworks been their target, I'd opine that no trace of the crates would have been found.

They're looking for a quick buck.  Had the load been dynamite or something similar, they might have been able to find a market for it.  The powder contained therein notwithstanding, there's not much of a market for commercial grade fireworks.  And being a relatively unique item, it'd be easy to identify.

I suppose it's possible that they went to the effort of unloading 30+ boxes of the stuff before they knew what they had, but I think other possibilities are that they abandoned the boxes because they thought they were discovered, or maybe the truck to transport the stuff never showed up.

Definitely not enough info.  What kind of explosives, how sensitive to shock, etc, etc, etc...

Of course, the authorities aren't too anxious to panic the Chicken Littles, most of whom go into, "Run in circles, scream and shout," mode at the slightest perception of danger.  Not everyone out there is a former Disaster Control specialist who considers explosives to be tools, not Mighty Engines of Destruction...

 Chicken Littles?
