I was sitting at a produce cooler in Yuma, Arizona last week when a train pulled up in what's left of the yard there and stopped. i got to looking at it and i noticed that every single locomotive on it was a SD60M...all 7 of them! so i ran over and got a picture of each one. while looking at the pics i noticed some differences between the different paint jobs on each type. so, i'll waste some bandwidth on this forum and on my photo hosting site to give y'all some ideas if you want to paint your own,[:D][:D]
a couple of the locomotives are from another train i shot in Tucson last year. those pictures are the bad ones.[:O]
UP SD60M 2277
this is a 3 window unit with the lightning stripes and the nose wings. you can see that the lightning stripes are placed low enough that the stripe is even with the top of the nose.
UP SD60M 2296
this is a 3 window unit with the regular striping
UP SD60M 2309
this is a 3 window unit with the lightning stripes placed a little higher on the body. in the nose shot you can see that their red stripes are a bit crooked under the windows.
UP SD60M 2330
another 3 window unit with the regular stripes
UP SD60M 2369
this is another 3 window unit with a really bad patch job and a gray brakewheel. it looks like the gasket is missing from around the engineers window.
UP SD60M 2510
this is a 2 window unit with the lightning stripes and nose wings. it looks pretty much like a SD70M paint job.
UP SD60M 6250
another regular 3 window unit. this one still has it's original number. they are all being slowly renumbered into the 2000's
UP SD60M 6283
this is a 2 window with the We Will Deliver lettering. if you compare the walkway behind the cab with the 3 window unit you'll see it is much different.
UP SD60M 6308
another regular 2 window unit.
well, I hope that someone can use these pictures. Tom Fassett has pictures of some UP SD60M's with the word HELPER stenciled onto the nose based out of West Colton Yard. here is the link: http://www.railroadforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3761
here are a couple of shots of the entire consist as it heads east, out of Yuma, off into the desert.
