Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Big day in Chicago sports yesterday. The Black Hawks raised their 2015 Stanley Cup Banner at the United Center and the Cubs advanced to play the Cardinals. Also trying to figure out how and why B&LE 866 showed up near Canal Street the day before.
Joe, happy happy to you and your bride ~~ prayers to you and her. Just happens to be our #60yr. day. That was in Daleville Ind. near Muncie.A lot of miles behind us and a lot more ahead. I guess we are in this for the long haul.

Y6bs evergreen in my mind
Happy anniversary to Joe and Stacey, and congratulations to Cannonball and Shirley on serving the first 60 years of their life sentence!Paul, I'd rather see the B&LE SD unit in Chicago than another yard goat...it was quite a night--the fireworks went off around bedtime around here.

Congrats to the long-term lovers! Given today's stats for divorces, it's a pleasure to see numbers like that!
Quiet day today, although I should have gotten some outside work done. Problem is, it's just below +60F now, and they usually recommend painting at over 60F, and that's what I need to do. Looks like rain today and tomorrow, and given that the work is on the roof...
Seasoning chicken for our barbeque tonight. The event is on Sunday, and we'll sell 450 halves (most of which will include all the "fixin's," too), probably within 90 minutes.
A young man driving his girlfriend's car decided to do the "Dukes of Hazzard" thing last night and ended up 200-300 yards off the road, through some brush, even clearing a small pond in the process. We're guessing speed was a factor...

JoeKoh, I saw the same lash-up from my train when we passed Forest Hill the other day just before 6 PM.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Good morning! ' Nothing much to say, except that it's going to be 86 degrees and sunny, a beautiful fall day, and this is my 10,000th post. Ain't I a blabber?

Congrats on completing the 10K, Norris! (We had the Chicago Marathon this morning--can you tell?)
We had some sort of nocturnal animal chewing at our house somewhere the night before last--can't figure it out, as nothing on the exterior is edible to them. But there might be some strange atmospheric or lunar conditions going around in our area. Friday afternoon Pat and I saw a friend of ours in the post office; he left just before we did. I expected to see him get into a car, but he walked out of the parking lot, across the street, then started to go across the tracks where there was no sidewalk. We were in our car by that time. As he started across, a train came. I think it threw a little panic into him as he turned around and made it back to safety. Had I been able to stop in the street I would have given him a little talking to...he had stashed his bike along the tracks and was going to get it--a trip of three or four extra blocks would have brought him and his bike across the tracks (at the crossing, instead of stepping over three main tracks and at least one crossover) and to the post office. We were going to accost him at church today, but he wasn't there. But that isn't the worst of it--Friday night an inbound scoot hit a pedestrian in Elmhurst, not far east of the station (and not long after we'd been in that area), killing her. The woman, in her 60s or 70s, had no ID on her, and was dressed in pajamas. We figure that she intended to kill herself, or was possibly suffering from dementia (not ruling out suicide, but possibly with a lack of situational awareness). So far, they haven't been able to identify her, as she had no identification on her. Then last night somebody was hit and killed by a freight here in Lombard. This one also may have been a suicide--he'd come out of a tavern, and some of the people there had said he had been talking about it. Not an easy thing to do around here now--he would have had to go up to the platform and step off. You can't cross the tracks there any more, because of the fence between two of the tracks. There are no news reports yet on this one (just the Metra delay notices from last night and scuttlebutt on Facebook). It sounds like both incidents had witnesses--not to mention the people in the cab or cab car who would have seen it all unfold in front of them--one has to wonder what they expected or thought of.

Where am I at? 4719. That's still about 4700 posts of useless blabber.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
Q 148 had a bad day.Hit a truck at west defiance at a farmers crossing.Saw the emergency vehicles.Heard the dispatcher tell the crew that the coroner was being called in.Went to see my brother. With the accident and work at Galetea it backed things up.Larry your RS-3 was still in Chicago. It hasn't been assigned to a csx train yet.Friend said he would let me know when it was.
Chicken was cooked to a "T." Unfortunately, we had a lot of competition and attendance wasn't as good as it could have been (and has been for the past couple of years).
Planning on taking advantage of tomorrow's warm weather to finish up the roof. Have to work off a roof ladder for part of it, which is more of a challenge than it used to be.
After that, it's rain, and the odds of nice weather start dropping dramatically, so I need to get it done. Of course, I've been putting it off for several years....
Ns local was in town when I left work.Csx was busy when I was doing errands here at home.Guy that was hit by the csx train yesterday was a local fire chief years ago.Ma nature is going to change the weather on us.Chores to do inside now.
afternoon
Ns local was uptown when I left work.Chores and errands to run.
The day started out with the promise of being miserable. After negligible rain, the sun finally came out and it turned into a decent day.
I also discovered a few spots where the paint I put on the roof yesterday was a little light, so I'll be hoping for one more warm day so I can patch that up before winter.
Ns was clear when I left work.Matt has confirmartion class tonight.Need to get cleaned up.
Well CSX did it here again. This mornig about 0700 a southbound ( west to BNSF at Birmingham ) a BNSF intermodal stopped at the south end of our siding. Train extended way beyond north switch It blocked all three crossings until at least 0830 waiting for a delayed northbound unknown. This caused all our school buses to have to detour 8 miles out of the way until the north bound also blocked that crossing.
Many unconfirmed reports of 10 - 30 minutes of town completely cut in two parts as this poster had to leave town.
Our siding is the shortest at 6000 ft + on CSX's A&WP sub. These delays seem to be happening here about once every 2 weeks all after CSX's traffic changes.
Never mind the school buses. How about your emergency services...
Laws regarding how long a crossing can be blocked notwithstanding, I'd think the city fathers would be letting CSX know that such delays are potentially endangering the public.
Even if CSX has every right to block every crossing in sight, I'm not sure they're ready for the PR disaster that would result from a death than could be laid on a delay to emergency responders.
I saw a similar situation this past Sunday at Blue Island Junction. IAIS was shoving a long cut of ethanol tanks from the IHB onto Metra (ex-RI) en route to Burr Oak. They apparently had to wait for clearance from the dispatcher and managed to block Broadway for 15-20 minutes.
Hey, Joe - NYC8255 was last reported in Willard as of noon Wednesday. Probably came through Deshler that morning.
