I would have to echo what Norris (Norse?) is saying. I miss those squiggly red lines under the words that my mean ol' keyboard insists on typing wrong in spite of my best intentions.

D I C T I O N A R Y : n- book that lists and explains the words of a language or the topics of a subject.
enough said.
B R A I N : n-something I have between my ears, the performance of which seems to go downhill at a steady, predictable pace. I used to rely on a dollar store spelling dictionary when I got in a pinch. the same way I used to rely on the Encyclopdedia Brittanica when I need to look something up. The point is, that spell check was a feature of the last version of the forum software, just like different font choices and colors. I'm hoping that spell check is a feature of the newest version, but that the IT folks just haven't found the on switch yet.enough said?

No, not enough said.
Many people don't use spell-checking to figure out how to spell words, they use it to 'catch' when words are accidentally mistyped. The little bitty default format and primitive sans-serif face in the compose window make it difficult for many people, including those like me with 'visual deficits', to see when that has happened, and it's beneficial to have the red wavy line to tell us there might be a problem.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I do not see how having a D I C T I O N A R Y helps with this.
A dictionery is grate for unduhstanding thuh diffrence buhtwean "THEN" and "THAN" so you can stop usin won when ewe mean thuh otter, but a dictionery is sometimes quite useless for duhturmoning thuh korect spilling of any werd if you cannot guess hou it is spilled in thuh fust place. And that guess can keyp you from ever findin a werd if you doan't pronunce it rite or it is not spilled accordioning to thuh phonics you learndead as a we tot from your pareaunts or teachurs in skool.

Since I have never had "spell check" on the forum, I don't miss it. However, my font size keeps changing. I went down one dress size and now back up one dress size. 8 pt is too small; 12 is too big. Why doesn't it stay stable at 10pt?

Since the forum changes are a new program maybe it can be reported. Does it follow ADA guidelines and compliance ? Think about visually imparied persons who have trouble proof reading. Missing fingers or hands? Fingers too thick to just tap one letter at a time ? Unable to read a dictionary for what ever reason. Returnig veterns who have so many different problems that it would take 2000 words to list ?
Do some voice active programs actually note spelling errors ?
Add in the missed tpyos.
Here is an interesting observation about spell check. On my older G5 Mac running Tiger, the spell check still works today. On the current slightly over two-month-old Mac running Mavericks, no squiggles at all. Hmmmmmmm.
The plot, like Raj Koothrappali's gravy, thickens.
Dictionary, n. A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work.” ― Ambrose Bierce
Spell-Check is the most humbling technology yet invented. I used to fret over being able to spell correctly, then I got quite proud of being able to do so without resorting to it. Now, those squiggly red lines-damn 'em!-mock me in the middle of every composition.

Maybe they need to feed the Forum Nerds Nutri-System?
That would help them reduce.
Just be glad they have not instituted Water Fonts
I've always been a reasonably good speller. My typing, while pretty good, is not always accurate, however, which is where most of my spelling problems arise.
Still, sometimes I don't know how to spell something, and it's always handy to have spell check to help me sort it out...

Czech your spelling out with a dictionary at the library.

The Google Tool bar has spell check. Firefox can't handle the Google tool bar.

OK Let's be honest here. The spell check made me appear smarter than I actually am. Now, my cover is blown. That became clear to me when trying to reply to another thread and I couldn't spell imminent (sp?). I couldn't find my dollar store spelling dictionary, and I didin't want to spend the time to find it in an online dictionary. So I tried to think of another word for imminant. Suddenly I found myself in want of a thesaurus.(sp?)
I get dizzy imagining that you're not really as smart as you appear.

NONE of us are as smart as we appear... and THAT is scary!

I still would be very glad if it were possible for me to go right into my preferred font and size when I click on "reply"--do I get it if my wheel squeaks loudly enough? Or, are the programmers deaf to such squeaks?
