I did hear Mercer's "Atchison Topeka..." when I was in central Virginia once. L.A. radio is largely corporate-congolmerate owned, over-researched, etc., so unless you have streaming audio from a web station, or one of the satellite stations, you won't hear much beyond the mass-appeal stuff. The music directors are either overworked or extremely timid.
