Railroad music...what do you listen to?

[{(-_-)}] When you're out railfanning, what's are some of the tunes that keep you going? After that three hour train chase across a state, do you crank up the "Lovesick Blues", or what? Keep it clean, clear, and of course, on topic. Discussion starts...now.[{(-_-)}]

It's usually either Hank Williams Sr. or the beatles....ecclectic you say? Maybe. Good stuff though.

Does anyone know if there is a song "Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe" on CD? It has been discussed in the forum before.

Yes, Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics and Harry Warren the music for "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" which was featured in the film "The Harvey Girls" with Judy Garland and a lot of others. It's on "The Harvey Girls" CD which I saw on the shelf at the music section of our Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Im am mostly country, Garth Brooks, Chris LeDoux Tim McGraw, But I like others, some AC-DC, Flogging Molly, I think most of them have a song that mentions the railroad. But that is what I listen to while I chase Trains.

Head East...most of their stuff, Granger Band to the max...

Mason William's "Classical Gas" minus the back up,,,just him and his stick....

Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"....

And when I am hunting something...."Tubular Bells" just creepy enough to be fun!


In truth, I have around 1500 tracks on tape and disc....from Heavy Metal to Classical, some Jazz, lots of Rock.
Wife has a entire computer of nothing but Country, thats almost all that is on the machine, she keeps adding memory to cram more stuff on it....


I like anything, and genre with a driving beat.....and a back beat.

Actually - I prefer a station that plays music from the 40's through the 60's. You know, the music that you could actually sing along with and could understand the words. Bet Modelcar will go along with me on this!

(1) Company truck does not have a CD player.

(2) Earphones in a vehicle are a no-no.

(3) Hit the "scan" button on the FM radio and it goes around and around for 30 minutes to an hour in many parts of KS, NE, NM, CO, OK and TX.......

Railroad supervisors and consultants, especially on the track & engineering side, tend to rack up just a few "frequent driver miles" flying about 3 feet off the ground. Comes with the job.

On my own, listen to easy pop, jazz every once in a while, old country from when
I was growing up, Golden Oldies Rock n Roll, gospel, anything from John Denver,
S&G, Beach Boys, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, The Statlers, Oak Ridge Boys,
you get the drift. Also like Enya.
