Name Changing
Posted by railman on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 4:42 PM
After reading of the trials and tribulations of some, I'm starting this thread to ask about name changing on the forums.

I know there are many reasons, and some may be personal, but overall, I'm curious. How many names have you had? Why did you change? (If you got thrown out, probably best to remain in hiding.)

Just a question. I started this after reading the detective story a few posts down.

I just picked my "name" as a login. I didn't expect to use the forum, just to read newswire, as I had before you had to register. Still, no reason to change now!
But whoever it is doing the changing, the detective yarn brightened up a dull, cold wet morning here, as did Dan's (p)syc(h)ophant definition - check it if you haven't see it yet.

My user ID is my real name,
Ed Blysard(pronounced Blizzard)
Yeah, I know,
How's the weather?

Now who in their right mind would think up a name like that?

I joined to see what this was all about, had never been on a forum before.
Wanted to be up front, I dont really like nicknames, and I like knowing who is talking to me, a made up person, or a real one.

Decided if I wanted their name, they deserved mine.

Love what Dan has done to the latest idiot incarnation of trainfinder, well worth the reading.

That's not a bad name at all. There are folk who really have it bad. Looked in a phone book and found people with the last name Tinkler-talk about bad parenting.[V]

What??[%-)][%-)][D)] Lastest incarnation? You mean KMC7 or is it another name? If so, what is it? Worth the reading? Which posts? The racism topic only caused discord.

Guess I'm at a disadvantage here as I'm trying to understand. Where's this "so called" detective yarn? Perhaps I'm just too old at 41 and I'm so fixed on trains that things "between the lines" slip past my eyes.

Would appreicate the clarifications.

Thanks!

just macguy for me -- I haven't even been here a year yet.

Odd thing is I didn't capitalize the "m" I usually do everywhere else.

Oh well.

My forum name is the same as my e-mail ID. No reason to change either one. I thought I might need something really distinctive, to distinguish me from any other C. Shavers out there...who knows?

I'm ValleyX, it's all I've ever been here and I intend to keep it that way. I'd use my real name but. . .I think I have valid reasons not to.

I've been MP57313 since I started. Mike Palmer, and 57313 is not a milepost number (no railroad is that long). It is a contract number that I worked on 12 years ago, where I got sent back east on the company nickel. Got to railfan in the evenings back there (work location was 5 miles from the NorthEast Corridor).

I am 'casco17' on other boards (named for El Casco in San Timoteo Canyon on the UP (SP).

I am me and have been me for years, now, don't get me confused with the other person with my name who stole it a while back becaseu that person is not me. Get my logic, Me neither. :)

But in all seriosness i had a name a way long time ago but i then got this one and have been for a while like 8 years now.

Don't like my given name - Jenny (sorry, not Ginny or Jennifer, just Jenny!)

Borrowed the cat's name rather than use mine.
