Dirty webcam lens

The center of the Rochelle webcam needs to be cleaned; it's not easy to see through.

This was explained on the thread for the Rochelle webcam.  Yes, it does need a cleaning--apparently a nice BNSF GE unit targeted the lens with a glop of semi-solid exhaust particulate (someone saw it happen).  It would involve climbing up there (not easy under the best of conditions--and it's been windy, if not otherwise nasty, over the week since it happened).

I see it also. Looks like a cloud of smoke, except it stays the same shape.

I think the picture would be a little clearer if some brave soul would climb up with a bit of Windex and clean off a layer of grime.

Yes, there is a substantial smudge in the center of the screen. Yesterday I wondered if it were smoke from a fire in the pit, but it's still there today.

I'm not endorsing that action for today, though.  There's no snow visible in the area, but the wind is kicking up something fierce.

That interior shot of the Del Monte building makes it look like the vehicle entrance used to be large enough to accommodate feight cars.

A lot of folks comment about the poor resolution of the webcam.  Compared to its predecessor, it is fantastic.  And compared to other rail cams, it's probably on a par.

It's as good, or better, than most traffic cams.

I'm not complaining.

I wasn't complaining.  Just noting how neat it was to see some real detail.

I agree that the current cam is far better than the previous one—and the sound is great, too!

Looks as if the wall parallel to the UP main of the old DelMonte building has been removed

Videos all over the Internet - google 'Rochelle Del Monte demolition' for everything you need at your fingertips in seconds.

Aware of that - just that 20 or 30 feet of the UP side wall had been standing there for several weeks and I anticipated that they would be dismantling the BNSF side wall down to the corner so the the corner could provide a level of support for each side.

Picture taken from inside the building:

Cool photo. The detail is startling after viewing the low resolution of the webcam.

FWIW, EMDs seem to be poorly represented on the BNSF trains that I've seen on the cam, compared to the GEs (like the one behind 9063 in the photo).

i googled it didn't get anything

Your Google and mine must be different.  See if this works; I don't know if these Google direct links will be clickable:

https://www.google.com/search?q=rochelle+del+monte+demolition&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

The first link has a video of an excavator working on the inside of the building, and appears to be dated in mid-December 2015.  The direct link to that reference is:

https://www.facebook.com/RochelleFlaggTownshipMuseum/videos/646569472149051/

I am not on Facebook, and probably never will be, but I get the video perfectly, and on a public connection, too.  (There appears to be other discussion on this museum's Facebook page...)

Just saw a single WP locomotive leading an eastbound double-stack intermodal on the UP--a heritage unit?

/Mr Lynn

I saw it too it was a Union Pacific SD70ACE, the WP heritage unit #1983.

I saw a wiper blade, not a hand and a cloth.

Our webcam provider EarthCam is having technical issues. There is no estimate for a return to service at this time.

Magic!  The feed seems to have returned at 12:57 CST.  Appropriately enough, crews are tending to the diamonds.

I don't get your comment. Please explain. Points toward what?

Being able to hit the camera from that distance... has to be worth something.  At least bragging rights.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

System seems to be down this morning... all I get is a narrow black band for the normally square window and no video.

While watching this afternoon, at about 5:05 PM, as a BNSF WB passed, it blew some gunk onto the lens of the camera.

Must have been one of those GE's that are noted for "wet-stacking".

It's clear now... a young man across the street seems to hang around the center, might have cleaned it, I've seen that monster hand wipe the lens several times now
