Brian- do you think Earth Cam could incorporate the scanner traffic into the steram? That would be bang-on!

A scanner feed is something that's been discussed, but cannot happen until the next hardware upgrade. That is not budgeted or scheduled at this time.

Minor correction--the CSX units were one unit away from the point, due to the old CNW cab-signal/ATC system.

My guess is that the lead unit would come off at Proviso before the train was delivered to CSX.  However, some of those UP trailing units seemed to be older ones that probably wouldn't go through, either (no longer familiar with everything...one was in the low 800 series--and no, it wasn't a 4-8-4!), and the DPU certainly wouldn't go through, so the train, or part of it, was probably headed to Proviso for classification.

I had the time to count cars on the EB UP train that just went by  (9:46 AM CDT).

179 cars... WOW!  Most I have seen (or taken the time to count) in a long, long time.

I didn't get a count of the engines because the video stuttered badly then, but was okay for the rest of the train; I think there were 6 or 8 engines on the front and one about the middle about 100 cars.

Yes, I think i remember seeing 3 CSX engines on the point.  Interesting that you can see something on-camera and then go see it later for real.  I think there are too many yards between Rochelle and here to ever see the same train... but I often try to write down WB engine numbers to see if I see them later in the day when I am out train-watching.  Only saw one engine that way, but it had moved back in the consist by the time it got here.

I saw your post almost two hours after the fact, and decided to wander out trackside to see if I could see this monster train.  You won't believe it, but I hadn't even gotten to my favorite platform bench in Lombard before the gates went down and the train came through.  Seven units on the point (I think three of them were CSX).  I didn't think the train was all that long, but the DPU was mid-train, as you mentioned.  I wasn't counting cars, as it would have detracted from equipment research.  But thanks for the heads-up!

6:00 PM Local .. CLE is in the World Series and a NYC unit is in the consist.

That was quick...screen grab up before the train clears the crossing.  Of course, it looks like they are yarding at Global III, so I guess you had enough time.  Now coming to a stop with a couple of wells still east of the diamonds at 6:05.

Our favorite spider just put in a brief personal appearance.  Being so close to the camera lens, she looked about twice the size of my thumb.  If I had been watching Rochelle in full screen mode, she'd have looked as big as a mountain lion.  Happy (early) Halloween!

Scooting around in front of the lens again this afternoon.  After all, is is a web cam, isn't it?Whistling

I can hear the 'wheels detector' at all hours of the day and night, is there a radio at the center, or are there crews working 24/7, east of the center?

As I sit here wanting to watch the Rochelle webcam I log on to it and get to see about 15 seconds then the sound is gone and the trees are not moving, I have tried waiting for a while but it never restarts it sefl.. I know it to reset itself but i feel i should be able towatch long enough to see more than 3 engins or 3 to 5 cars,

Folks, we are aware of a problem with the webcam this morning and are looking into it. At this time, there is no estimate for its return to service.

Seems to be up and running now but I think some parameters may need finer tuning.
1) The web cam came up in a reasonably short time, stayed up for about 20 minutes, and went down again with a message that I don't have enough band width (ethernet connection to a cable modem running at ~100mbps).  Immediately brought it back up and it stayed up.
2) I can testify that the sound has been improved.  I'm going to have to adjust it on my end to eliminate wind noise from the slightest breeze; interferes with the classical music I normally have streaming.

The looking has worked, Brian. Thanks, as I think we are now looking at the diamonds again, with (stop me if you've heard this before) MOW folks checking the crossing.

Tried logging in yesterday afternoon and keep getting the same loading image every since.  All you get is a sliver of the "weather info" down in the lower right corner.

Earthcam stream seems clogged today.  No luck with either Safari or Explorer in getting past the loading animation.  Need some Drano, I guess.

Some cars may have their own mechanical problems - weak or broken springs in the truck(s), missing or broken side bearings and a host of other potential problems.

About 10 minutes ago I just saw about the best example of that I have seen on a EB UP train on the near track. Two centre beam flats that seem to have been loaded at the same time reacted very differently crossing the diamond. The first one did a slight wobble while the second one was bouncing like crazy. There was probably not more than a few hundred pounds difference in the cargo weight.
