British Big 4 Maps
Posted by Kevin C. Smith on Monday, April 28, 2014 1:20 AM
I have a simple request that is utterly beyond my abilities-embarrassingly so. I am trying to find a decent online map of the 1923-1947 British Railways but, search as I might, I can't. I have found innumerable lists of pre-grouping railways and I have found a few individual maps of each of the four post grouping ones. What I cannot find, however, is a map of Britain showing all of the Big 4 at once. If I have to, I'll buy one on good, ol' fashioned paper somewhere but, if there is one on the interwebs, I'd much prefer. Oh, and if I can get greedy-any maps of the proposed but not accepted groupings would be (as a friend of mine used to say) "the ribbon on the cake".

Have you checked with the Archives Section at the National Railway Museum in York, UK. They have some great researchers there and a long reach. Worth a try if you haven't already done so.
