Jerusalem Light Rail to pause service for Palm Sunday

On Sunday evening, part of the Jerusalem Light Rail's service will temporarily stop due to Palm Sunday's "March of the Palms," CityPass announced.

Service will stop from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. only between the Central Bus Station and Ammunition Hill stations.  

(from Dave Klepper:  Service will be provided between Pizgat Zev at the northern terminal as far south as Ammunition Hill, and from the Central Bus Station to Mount Herzl, with at least one bus line avoiding the procession;s route as a passenger bridge beween Ammunition Hill and the Central Station.)

 

Jordan, Egypt, Iraq discuss railway

High-ranking government officials form Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq met on Saturday to discuss a joint railway project that would link the three countries. Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour met with Egypt’s Transportation Minister Ibrahim Demeiri and Iraq’s Transportation Minister Salman Jassim, Petra news agency reported.

Ensour explained how important the railway project is as it links the countries of the Levant with North Africa, increasing trade and the economic interests of Arab countries. Jordanian Transportation Minister Lina Shabib, Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan Khaled Tharwat and Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Jawad Abbas also attended the meeting, the report said.

In order to have a land route, the line would need to cross part of Israel around the north end of the Gulf of Aqaba. Any word on that?

Both Jordan and Egypt have signed peace treaties with israel.  Israel is also constructing a railroad from Beir Sheba to Eilat, which would connect with this railroad.
