kakesqHi, I'm new here. Looking to see if anyone has info on railroads in Oklahoma? I'm interested in what Bnsf and UP are doing. Also Stillwater central is up too? Thanks any info would be great.
First of all: Welcome kakesq !
Hope you enjoy it around these Forums. I am up in So Central Kansas just off BNSF Tcon, and East by about 8 miles off UPRR's OKT sub.
There has been a couple of threads around here, referencing the [WATCO] Stillwater Central operation of the Eastern Flyer, but not much very recently.
I might suggest to you a Yahoo Group as well that follows your interests in the area of Oklahoma; It is called arksmook ( for: AR KS MO OK ) . They have several guys who report on things of interest from OKLA. The Farm Lines, and Cherokee Yard ( @Tulsa), and the AVARD sub. Join it thru Yahoo Groups.
There is an excellent map in January 2014 Trains "BNSF trains per day: 1994/2012" which shows the number of trains per day on line segments. My son is in OKC and I have visited a few times, so I have a little interest. The big line of course is the Transcon BNSF line thru NW Ok. The map shows about 60 trains per day. The former Frisco line from Springfield to Tulsa then to Avard has seen a big jump in intermodal traffic as BNSF has used it for traffic to Memphis.
The former ATSF line south thru OKC shows 24 trains per day. On my last visit, there was an oil unit train passing. Amtrak runs from OKC to Dallas and back daily. I have seen a NS Roadrailer train on the former Frisco line from Tulsa to Dallas...that line shows 11 trains daily.
For the UP, I have no current info. The last map was the "Union Pacific trains per day: 2003. The former MKT line south from Kansas City to Ft Worth showed 18 trains and the former MoPac line to Little Rock also showed 18 trains. These line cross each other at Wagoner, Ok. The former Rock Island line in the panhandle showed 20 trains per day in 2003. My guess is that number has increased.
Cannot comment on the shortline/regionals.
