I noticed on the STB filings (which is not as depressing as it used to be just a few years ago, let alone during the early 21st century), that TTX is requesting "Reauthorization of the Flat Car pool". There's lots of current and recent era fleet info in the first few appendices (or Tabs) - (In Tab D you also get the signatures of many of the vice presidents of North American's biggest railroads) - but starting on page 90 (Tab F/G etc.) there's a wealth of historical contracts, appendices, and rate-lists over the decades, including rates, car-hire contracts, rules and regulations, fleet ratios, and so on - you can glean lots of interesting info from within the dross of general contract boilplate.
Just so you know, Vert-A-Pac superstructures incurred an additional $26.50 per car daily charge back in 1971...
