We had some ferocious winds here, probably up into the 50s or 60s (Chesterton got 80), and very hard rain in two doses.  Minor problem in the dungeon--too minor to worry about right now.  Not going to put out the trash, recycling, or yard waste until the wind dies down.  Had a marvelous rainbow between the two storms.  Others saw a secondary bow; we weren't so lucky.

They told everyone at Soldier Field to go to shelter before the Bears Game until the weather cleared a couple hours later (don't know why they're worried--touchdowns don't happen there very often!  Actually, just often enough tonight, thank you!).

UP halted the scoots on the West Line (probably the other two as well) during the storm.  They finally let them move after a wait of about 100 minutes.  The next pair of scoots (one in each direction) were annulled completely.  (A tad frustrating--BNSF had no similar restrictions.)

Nearest tornadoes to us were probably the band that made a mess of things in Diamond, Coal City, and Wilmington (around Global 4), south and west of Joliet.  There was also one in Frankfort, which is to our south.  The first bunch were probably in line with the ones that went through the Peoria area (Washington, Illinois, near Peoria, was hit hard).

After temperatures near 70 around noon, it's now 45, going to the low 30s tonight.  By next weekend we'll be having a day or two where the highs are below freezing.  Just in time for our California kids (and grandkid) to touch down.

As I've already reported back to Jen..we survived once again. Thank the lord.  I thought this one might be the one to finally give us the "test"...But the massive red spots on radar, seem to split as it got rather close to us coming from the west.

I understand Indiana has damage in every county.  The blunt of it all won't be known until daylight tomorrow.  Near by here our local TV was showing some major damage not too far from me.  Had one report of confirmed 21 tornatos here in this State.

And strange things these weather systems produce...When I came in the home office here an hr. plus ago, the full moon was shining in the eastern sky, like we've been having a nice calm day all day.....

I'm guessing possibly 70 mph winds here late this afternoon, and I'll be anxious to see just what it officially was as I check my morning paper.

Heard from Joe - everyone ok in his house.

Tree - you may have to do this alone.  I think most of us will be bundled and trundled.

Storm was a "pfffft."  Raining, and the wind is kicking up a bit, but nothing out of the ordinary (aside from the fact that normally this would all be snow).

Wind is supposed to be around most of the day, though, so it's back to bed for me.

I escaped unscathed, but I can't say that for a large portion of southern Michigan. No reported tornadoes, but lots of wind and heavy rain. Lots of power outages from the state line about half way up the lower peninsula.

Sam - heard from Quentin, Joe in NW Ohio and Mudchicken - who has relatives in Cincy.  All are ok.

The only damage we had here in Lincoln was my barometer behind me - it almost fell off the wall going down so fast.  And all we got was wind, which is not unusual.

Thanks, Mookie!

That kind of news is welcome. I have an acquaintance with a couple of folks who lib=ve out from the Muncie area...They came through it ok, but as you know many in their areas, did not.

Hope Joe and the guys in NW Ohio ( Fostoria area)  Did not lookse their new Train watching place at the Iron Triangle in Fostoria. Whistling

Hope Ed (In Valpo) came through it as well with no damage. Don't know how close it got to him. I know there was some damage up on the Indiana, Michigan line..

We had very high winds around here, yesterday.. I was thankful becaue it blew all the leaves out of the neighborhood... One of my Honey-Dos was going to be wraking them up toaday and taking them to the burn pile... Skated on that chore. Mischief

Thamks, Mookie for the update.    Mucho Gracias! Smile, Wink & Grin

Took a drive to the east end of Lake Ontario this afternoon.  The wind was wailing (measured 25-30 MPH sustained, gusts to 40), but the surf wasn't as nasty as I thought it would be.

Saw a ship at anchor several miles out - and found that several are at anchor on the St Lawrence, waiting to venture out onto the lake (there's a website for that).  The one on the lake was waiting to head down the St Lawrence.  Judging by how much it was swinging on its anchor chain, I'd have to imagine keeping a ship within the channel on the river would be a real challenge.

Apparently Lake Erie was literally pushed toward the east end of the lake, with water levels at Cleveland dropping over two feet, while Buffalo saw an increase of almost three feet.

Things are settling down around here.  There were only a few trees on wires calls around the county, and so far my FD has managed to stay home.

Managed to stay out of the fun on Sunday, was in Benson, NC. All we got was a bit of rain. Others were not so lucky, sounded like we had about eight wind-related accidents, including two blow-overs. All drivers are okay.......

Sam,

Michigan has an identity problem regarding that. We're certainly not an eastern state, nor are we truly in the Midwest. We do tend to identify with the latter though.

60 today, 36 tomorrow - winter mix - that means say home and don't drive!

And we saw our first tumbleweed when train watching.  It was headed for downtown!

Still retain that old west flavor!

Did they block your door because you would not let them in out of the cold?

We are having light rain and, some days, light snow where we live; some ski resorts have already opened, and more will open by next weekend. Perhaps I really should buy snow tires for my car--if I go into town, I coast for the first mile and a half.

A few days ago, Katie and I stood by my glass door and counted at least seventeen quail who were feeding in the back yard. It was quite a sight.

We had light rain, off and on, most of day until snow began coming down early in the afternoon, and melting. Before dark, the snow began sticking on the grass. We expect high winds during the night, especially in the two counties north of Salt Lake City (there are nice canyons to the east of the cities, which let the winds roar down through them and wreak great havoc along the way).

Mid- single digits here in CO, 3" of white powder and white ice underneath. Treading carefully.

The Sixties to single digit drop has caused a gaggle of pull-aparts. Da Boyz are out romping in it.

The meteorological prognosticators are threatening us with snow (rain has been mentioned, too).  Nice for the atmosphere of the Polar Express, but a real pain operationally.  We are, after all, climbing the hill, and with a pretty significant train.

MC, I understand you are supposed to get our weather the next day--but we did NOT have anything that cold; there must be someone east of here who pulled the heat out of the air.

Arrrrgggg!!  Why are we being attacked with X-MAS Carp already?  It's only the week before Thanksgiving.  If you have the "Biggest  sale of the year !!"  every week, doesn't that just become one sale for the entire year?  The car dealers are having Black Friday deals on new cars.  Can we expect the January white sales next week? Grumpy

Norm - I peeked at the low for Sat here and they say 5 degrees.  But 41 on Monday.  Looks like Denver is pushing heavy snow around - just so they push it into Kansas!

BC - I like carp - out of clean water.  We have a lot of carp in our local waters, along with Nebraska bullheads and Minnesota bullheads.  One has a yellow belly and the other a white.  Maybe someone on here can enlighten us on carp.  When I was old enough to bait a hook, we used to only catch carp and bullheads in city lakes, so we had both on the dinner table.  I always thought they tasted pretty good.

Caught a good-sized flathead one time and we have "blue" cats, but would never attempt to keep either.  If they get that big, they would probably taste like old wood.
