I visit many forums and web sites and I have yet to see one that works perfectly. ALL of them have problems of one sort or another.
Part of the problem is that the specifications for how a browser is to interpret the languages that the web uses to represent the programs for the browser to run is subject to interpretation, and lots of "NIH" (not invented here) factors get involved that cause each browser to work slightly differently and the forum software has to have little checks and tweaks to determine which browser is being use (even down to which version of which browser) so it can execute the proper commands for that version of browser to produce the desired result.
Then add onto that the need to modify things to thwart the idiot hackers that maliciously try to damage various web sites just for fun and or profit and or fame and or just plain stupid meanness and you have lots of minor little bugs that creep in and cause all sorts of consternations for the general users and huge headaches for the IT staff.
I have seen forum software that has features that I much prefer, but ALL of the ones I have seen and used still cause problems for some users... ALL of them! Every forum I have visited has a "forum bugs and testing" section and all of them have complaints about how bad the forum software is and claims that there are better packages out there, but I have not seen anyone suggests a good package that has not also been shot down by complaints of how bad that particular package really is.

I'm surprised Kalmbach even still has these forums.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

Well,
If it’s in Wikipedia it must be true….they can’t put anything on the internet if it isn’t true…..

Murphy Siding zugmann I'm surprised Kalmbach even still has these forums. Here is a bit of detail from Wikipedia that changes everything. Certainly, one might question the accuracy, but it is the most detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the star disappearance and so-called lack of post counts that I have seen. From this information, I conclude that you're just sore because I have all the stars and you don't.
BaltACDWhen there are so many reliable and proven forum software packages already existing, why does Kalmbach IT think it always needs to reinvent the forum software?????
There may a backstory here - features in the forum software that the host likes and of which the average user is not even aware - management, tracking, etc.
As suggested, we should be glad we have this forum in the first place. It certainly costs Kalmbach money, and a lot of companies would be just as glad as not to put the money into something else.
At least we don't have any self pronounced guardians of the public good who do things like convince the hosting company that they own the forum and it should be shut down, all because they don't like something that's been posted... Been there, done that.

I think zugmann is just concerned that the working railroaders can't seem to deal with that.

What zugmann really means is that he has a certain disdain for all this star business, and wishes that the government would take the lead to clarify just how many stars are required, yet veer away from the use of any green stars. He may have said something else, but this is what he means.

If he's not thinking what I think he should be thinking, then I am thinking that his thinking is probably wrong. Think about that.
It is truly ironic that the biggest whiners about the Bucyrus posts are able to get away with posting drivel, over and over, with total equanimity and no fear of negative consequences by the moderators. These posts are so stupid that, if there were impartiality on these forums, this group of posters should be banned for one month, minimum. But I am sure that aint gonna happen and probably this post will be removed instead as "offensive."

Norm48327- I hope you get your stars back. If not, you can have mine.
Yes but....
Murphy Siding Not nearly as ironic as the fact the biggest supporter of the one who shall remain nameless posting drivel over and over now finds fault with someone else doing it, and wants to have fellow members banned. What's next- suggesting that this thread needs to be locked? A wise man on the forum recently said that if posts like this upset you, perhaps you should not read them. That wise man was you..How ironic....
Like the Grandfather in the Dish Network commercials: "BINGO!!!!"

Oh... And getting back to the thread itself...I am a 5-star "Super Contributor!"
Eleanor Roosevelt would be proud.

Ain't no big fat hairy deal. I was just wondering where they went.
I sure didn't intend to start a flame war.

Try getting your facts straight. I was hardly one of Bucyrus' biggest supporters. I was critical, without getting into personal attacks, as at least one person was But at least his merry-go-round of posts had something to do with railroads, specifically some issues that are not at all settled about setting brakes, etc. This recent torrent of posts you and some others have made of late have nothing to do with railroading. They are totally off topic, something you as a one-time moderator should know. It is easy to ignore a thread when one knows it is about a topic (labeled as such) that one knows is boring. But when a thread is supposed to be about the disappearing thread count, but has turned into a childish bunch of off-topic mini-rants, it only becomes clear after checking.
Fair enough, I guess. You're right. Enough of this silly talk. It's time for this thread to get back to the serious railroad talk about disappearing stars.
Schlimm, do you need a hug?
Supermod Schlimm to the rescue!!!!
Seriously, this is a silly post about a silly topic (the disappearance of the silly stars for some). I really don't care about the stars. I am perfectly fine without them. Lighten up a little - you'll have more fun.
zugmann Supermod Schlimm to the rescue!!!!
Schlimm obviously forgot to follow his own advice about ignoring threads he did not like.
I have zero stars. I must not exist.
But then again, as a wise man once said: I derail threads, therefore I am.
What I am is up to debate.
I think, therefore I am.
I think I think, therefore I think I am.
I think I am not, therefore {poof}
Murray Schlimm, do you need a hug?
That, and a Snickers, because……
We can't take your advice seriously Ed. You have no stars. You are starless. You are without stars. You have vacancies in your star profile. Your stars have marked off.
We are the unstarred. We hide in the shadows. Women and children run in fear of us. Men cross the street when they see us coming.
Wait a second, Schlimm,
You couldn’t tell from the title that this post was going to be full of…what’s the word I am looking for?
Oh yeah, inane…full of inane drivel that was not about anything close to serious like handbrakes?
And I haven’t seen any rants in this thread, just a little ribbing going on….that and some tongue in cheek humor.
Starless, and darn proud of it!
