Moonville, Ohio visit
Posted by chatanuga on Monday, July 22, 2013 5:43 PM

After going down to what used to be the town of Moonville, Ohio a little over a year ago (http://chatanuga.org/Moonville.html), I decided to go again, this time going down in the morning to explore the abandoned CSX tunnels and right of way, do some ghost hunting, and enjoy the scenery in the morning when it would be cooler.

Here is the last leg of the trip down to Moonville and the tunnel.

Here is a look around Moonville, a walk through the tunnel, and a drive up to the cemetery.

Here's the drive to and look at the King Hollow Tunnel.  While it is only a couple miles from the Moonville Tunnel, CSX tore out several bridges in the area when the route was taken up in 1988, leaving a lengthy drive rather than a hike to the tunnel.

I then rounded out the trip with a drive back to Lake Hope.

I wanted to do some more exploring, but having been up since 3AM, the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes were getting to me.  Plus I wanted to get lunch in me and had a 2-hour drive home, which I wanted to complete before rush hour hit in Columbus.

The area is really neat to visit to see beautiful scenery as well as explore some of railroading and Ohio's past.
