Will GE's Locomotive Manufacturing Benefit From NBC Sale?
Posted by zardoz on Thursday, February 14, 2013 8:54 AM

Now that GE has sold off its' 49% stake of the NBC network for $16Billion US dollars ( http://apnews.myway.com//article/20130213/DA4DFLN01.html ), will the influx of funds help GE to dominate locomotive manufacturing?

GE has so much going on this will not have an impact on any particular part of the the rest of the company.  In fact, NBC Universal is so small, it may only affect the brand of coffee they buy for the commissaries.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

It's interesting that you mention the commissary as one of the articles I read about the deal mentioned the corporate culture clash between Comcast and GE. When Comcast bought the first "chunk" of GE they stirred up controversy at 30 Rock by moving all the top executives down to a lower floor, assigning them smaller offices and requiring them to dine in the cafeteria with all the other employees..

As far as GE transportation systems they are already the dominant locomotive builder in the North American market and GE's shedding of a non-core business doesn't change that...
